Is there a maximum number of skill points (weapon proficiencies), or does the number of skill points only depend on the level of the character ?

I'll use the fighter as a base. You get 5 points for any weapon skill, then you can get a maximum of three points to things like Two-handed weapon use, Sword and sheild style, two weapon style, and single weapon style. Of course, the maximum differes from each kit. For instance, and ranger can only have two in any skill, and a mage can only have one. The only time this is different is if shadow keeper is being used.

Ok I know that 5 is the maximum in ONE SINGLE proficiency, but I meant in total. For example a level 40 fighter, if he gets 1 point every three levels he woul have 13 points ! Does he really get 1 point every three levels or does he get no more points then lets say 8 as a total ?

dunno what the limit is, but my paladin at level 18 has 10 total proficiency slots.

fighter class will have at least that, perhaps more.

If I remeber, at the beginning of BG1 you get 4 *'s to start with, and then one very three levels (3,6,9, etc.). I'm not sure what the highest level for a fighter is in ToB is, but at level 40 you should have 17 *'s. I think that should be for one fighter enough. :D

Ok so it`s 17, but what I wanted to know is do you REALLY get 17 points or is 10 the maximum so that you can`t get anymore after 10 ???
