Hey, I was just wondering what's the best thing you've ever heard of or read about, and would like to own in real. An enchanted sword? A magical ring? An invisinility cloak? Or perhaps a palantir?

For me it's the Mirror of Erised. That thing really caught me! It is said to show "nothing more or nothing less than the deepest, most desperate desires of our hearts" - isn't it interesting? Sometimes people don't know or don't dare to face what they really desire - I'm sure looking into that mirror would surprise many people (That's why I love JKR, her writings hold so much more than just the story itself!)

Well, invisibility cloacks could be fun, too...

i would like to have the "girdle of what's-next-saturdays-winning-lottery-numbers"

but seriously though, i think i would want a "the magic lamp" that has a genie inside that will grant me 3 wishes.. does that count? if not then a "Wish Scroll" that can be read by normal humans..

I'd quite like the bracers of wealth and on a completley non serious note the snazy scarf, mittens and bobbly hat of godliness and all round sexiness!

Well, from Baldur's Gate I used to like the Varscona sword... well, I tried using it on Shadows of Amn too, but it cant kill anything.

From my own imagination, the Everlasting Bottle of Tequilla is the favourite

And also, the pocketknifre from McGaiver (sp?) that guy could make miracles and magic things witht that thing. I bet he could even clone aliens if he wished

I'm all for Excalibur, but I wouldn't say no to the grail either

Well, he's been without it long enough, it only makes sense

Interesting topic, Brynn. Me, they would have to be:

Celtic/Arthurian:
- Excalibur. A weapon with greater power within its scabbard, particularly to keep its wielder from shedding/losing blood.

Sumerian:
- The plant of eternal youth. It may have possibly made humans never age or die if it wasn't eaten by a snake. Fortunately, Gilgamesh decided building and stabilizing the city of Uruk was enough of an accomplishment.

Greek/Roman/Olympian:
- The winged sandals of Hermes/Mercury. Could save me money for gasoline

... and maybe get me in trouble with the Federal Aviation Administration.

- The Nemean Lion pelt of Heracles/Hercules. Practically invlunerable to any weapon.

- Hades'/Pluto's helmet of invisibility. Always loved the idea of vanishing in plain sight.

- Medusa's head. Turning things that annoy you to stone, anyone?

Norse:
- Thor's Hammer, Miolnir (sp?). From what I read, that thing could just about pound giant skulls as easily as if it were fire-hardened clay! Of course, the god of thunder needed his gloves and belt to wield the thing safely, so there was a drawback.

- Odin's spear Gugnir. The All-Father practically couldn't miss with it.

That's all I can really think of.

Right about now?
A cloak of invisibility, along with an uber ranged and especially nasty bow would do me very nicely... I know there are some well known bows out there in fantasies, but I can't call any to mind at the moment.

Well, the Grim Reaper's scythe, kills anything it touches. Not only that, sends the soul to a seperate plane to be held and such. I've always liked that.

There was something I read in some mythology book when I was little and forced to do book reports for school of some figurine that was supposed to have the power to just devour your soul when you grabbed onto it if you weren't of a certain bloodline. I liked that too, cannot for the life of remember what it was called, shaped like or where from or anything, it's been more than 12 years since I read the book.

That Everlasting Bottle of Tequilla though, that's my new best friend there. Gonna do shots til I start sweating Tequilla.

When my younger brother was maybe 14 and just getting interested in art he made a comic at a friends house he really shouldn't of made at that age. I snagged it and read it and almost died laughing from what was in it, but there was this thing he wrote in there that was the "Glove of Booty". He was just getting interested in girls and yeah, I have to say that just might be my favorite after making him explain it in exchange for not showing our mom.
