I usually choose a Human Ranger for my class/ race, what do you choose?

Jaldur, depends on what I want to do in the next game.

For example, by playing ranger/paladin you're prolly gonna do the good path. Being good, help others, ally with good characters as Misncy, Garrick...

I like to roleplay, so a necromancer fits my way to say I'm gonna be an evil man, or I play a bard when I'm gonna search for knowing everyone/everything, or I play a fighter when I'm gonna enter more mindless on every fight.

For BG 1 my choice will be almost always a bit more muscle than magic, so I usually play a fighter (proficiencies in bows and long sword), or a fighter thief (backstab).

Same here. I've finished the game with a fighter three or four times :P

Whatever I feel like playing for that go-through... It's more of a roleplaying desicion for me, rather than a numbers choice.

I've played gnome thieves, dwarven fighter/clerics, a half elf bard, etc., etc.

Cheers,
TGHO

Never flee them unless your party is completely invisible. Always try to "deal" with them first.

Memorize prot from petrification, have a bunch of summons or nuke the place with fireballs, after casting web. You can also backstab them, but its really harder - you dont have many thieves nor f/thieves on your party.

You may also use potion of mirroring, or buff your party - prot from evil, bless, all those things to increase theyr save vs sg roll... or haste a bunch of summoned skeletons, they cant be petrified, and whack them with arrows.

let me know if you have succeeded

i wield the magical long sword 'Varscona', a short sword +1 and a composite longbow boosted with armlets that let you hit much easier

Varscona is always a good choice, and it comes early in the game.

Combine varscona with a good armor, and if you're a fighter thief start all your combats with a backstab and a +2 ice dmg chill... Gotta love that sword

I've finished the game with a variety of different fighters using different weapons. I've never been much with magic, so I'm trying a mage this time around and the game is a lot different. Different strategies are required just to stay alive.

I play with my player as a Gnome Fighter (lawful good) normally. I use ankeg pl8, battle axe +1 or long sword +1, a sling +1, and usually have immy and xan (minsc, jehierah, kahalid, and that other ranger (found in high hedge) most often fill the rest. I am very bad with bard stratagies so Garrick is out for me (no offense to you who love bards, i see no talent in them though).

i've forgot were to find the drow who joins your party, i thought is was west of the friendly arm inn or is it north?

She's west of the Friendly Arm Inn. Peldvale I believe. Her name's Viconia, Drow Cleric, Neutral Evil

Viconia can be found in the northwest quadrant of Peldvale. By the way, that's EAST of the Friendly Arm Inn. I think you have to go through Larswood first in order to reach Peldvale.

I've been to peldvale, i think you have to go at night?

You're right, VonDondu: it's east, not west. That's what I meant to say. When you're at the Friendly Arm Inn, just proceed east and you can go right away to Peldvale (you don't have to cross Larswood first)
If I remember correctly, you do not have to go at night, as you will find her also at daytime. It's in the north-west corner of the map, at the point where you see a bit of the road. Perhaps you should try this link: http://gamebanshee.com/baldursgate/loca ... ldvale.php
