bug-cheese in Tactics!! (spoilers to tactics ;)

Post by tamenrot »

I am playing the Tactics Mod (plus ease of use and XP cap removing) and found a "bug-cheese" concerning Imoen.
I'm playing two characters plus Imoen and escape to Akatla took me about 36-40 days!!! (I have no clerics in my group :P ).
When faced to Illych I felt "morale failure-running" (me, not my characters)... it's a MADNESS! And when I saw the fallen deva (I have read the read-me of tactics, but all the way I felt surprised!) I thought that it was too tough. Too hard.
And then I find a cheese (mark to see, it is a spoiler to Tactics ;) .
Imoen must escape to Akatla, so she CAN'T die. First time, when she reached 1 hit point, she said she went away... but second time she stood and took hits without die nor have below 1 HP (I had change her script to "none", but I think that with previous script it worked too). So I used this cheese to defeat illych & CO. (sorry, I know it's cheese... but it was so, so tough...). I used Imoen as a furniture to close the upper entrance to the sewer of the Otylugh, and she catch all the fire. When the fallen deva was summoned, it conjured its fire storm and hit all the bad guys including the demon. Is was unsummoned -time-, and a new one appeared. It conjured a new fire storm, and leaved all the bad guys at one step to death... so I appeared and finished them. Imoen was at 1HP and cried "ah, ah"... but didn't die... total cheese.

Tactics is cool... and I think it BURNS, too! ;) But I want a challenge because now I'm replaying the SoA again I was finding it too easy... ohoh... I hate duergars, hahahha.
Well... that's the cheese. To the group that scripted Tactics... "you're cool!" :) The dialog with illych is good, hehe, you improved not only the battles and that's good :)

UU's cheeseguide describes this as well...

And using that you're not taking the fun of the game, aye? Tactics is meant to be ubber players only... Try defeating them without having Immy on your party, and using all techniques avaiable - Backstab, spells, items, running, hiding...

A good fighter thief, with a quick mage and some party member with a good aim in arrows may block the worst nightmare of the Ylich encounter.

If a game is cheesy, is it cheese to cheese the cheese?
Warning: logic and sense is replaced by typos and errors after 11pm

Yes. But the true question is: Is cheese bad?
