Ok so I recently rebought both fallout 1 &2 (got the set on amazon for only $3.49). So heres where the weirdness kicks in. I do the huge install and I can play the game 1 time then next time I try to play it I get this error message
"C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\fallout2\fallout.exe is not a valid Win32 application".
Now Ive tried it in every comatability mode and Ive tried makeing the .exe file read only but still get the error happens with both fallouts btw. Ive tried installing them straight from the disk, and copying th disk to my hard drive then going from there and nothing. So if anyone out there can help me it would be awsome I just want to go kill me some muties :D .

just incase I put the specs here if youneed them. thanks.
I have windows Xp (think I have service pack 1)
2.8 amd xp precesor
1gig ram
nvidia FX 5200 ultra (newest drivers)
and and creative SB audigy (latest drivers)

nope i just quit the game went and got something to eat then came back and it did it. Ive tried reinstalling abunch of times and it still happens. Itslike I can play it once right after the install but after I exit the game it just doesnt work anymore. I really wish this comapny want in financial trouble cause then maybe they would have made a fix for this.

yes for every time I install I can play the game once, I actually played it for about 4 hours then left my computer on all night with fallout 2 still running andin the morning I could still play. It seems the problem only starts after I exit out of the game. Heres the .cfg
****
[sound]
music_path1=C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2\data\sound\music\
music_path2=D:\data\sound\music\

[system]
cdlock=D:\cdlock.dat
critter_dat=C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2\critter.dat
critter_patches=C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2\data
master_dat=C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2\master.dat
master_patches=C:\Program Files\BlackIsle\Fallout2\data
art_cache_size=524
**** end of .cfg

looks alot shorter than the fallout 1 .cfg, but fallout 1 also gives me this same exact problem. by the way, thanks for helping me out man.

My OS is Win Xp home, currently the only programs being run by me (not the system) are explorer, wuauclt (which I think is my sound), firefox (internet), and taskmgr. I dont have any patches installed for fallout 1 or 2 right now eather incase that means anything to you. maybe Ill try copy pasteing your .cfg into mine who knows. ok damn it that didnt work :confused:

what patch would you recommend? Ive had some trouble finding them. Mostly Ive just been able to find alot of unnofficial patches and somethingcalled the children patch but my version has children in it so that last one seems useless.

holy ****, seriously thats all I have to say. I installed fallout 2 patch and it still didnt work, so I completely cleaned all interplay products from my computer then reinstalled both fallout 1 and 2 did the patch and still had the problem. BUT then I cleared them out and reinstalled them again then patched them again (because Im a stuborned bastard) and it now both fallout 1 and 2 work fine, Im not going to question it because sometimes computers just dont make sense so Im just going to take it and run with it. So thanks Da_venom very much, this is possibly the weirdest problem Ive ever had with a computer game.

So just for future reference if anyone gets this problem just install, patch, uninstall, reinstall, patch ect. untill the damn thing works.

*edit*
ok maybe not, son of a *****. This time both fallouts worked afew times each but now Im gettingthe same error!!! :confused: :confused:
