I have a multi-class character (Fighter/Mage/Thief). I have gotten the fighter and thief quests but can't get the mage one. I have finished the planar sphere quest. Is there someone I have to talk to to gain ownership of it?

If you take Lavok outside to see the sun of his home world one last time, he gives you the sphere. If you already have a fighter or thief stronghold, however, you can't get the sphere.

I did have a game going, however, where my dual class fighter/thief got both of his strongholds -- the Mae'var guildhouse and D'Anisse Keep.

There is a patch that will allow you to get all the strongholds if you want to break the rules a bit.
