Crashes when entering the curiosity shop

When I try to enter the curiosity shop in the clerks ward, the game brings up that loading window, then crashes.
I have applied that 1.37 fix pack, is this a known issue....?
Thanks

It happened to me a few times, but I can't remember what (if anything) I did about it. After reloading, I was able to enter the Shoppe, so maybe you can, too.

It is a known issue. I thought I remembered a fix, but I'll have to look for it. It would probably mean you'd have to start over though.
Some things you can try:
-- Go to the main folder, then the cache folder, then data(or temp?) folder, then erase all that is in there.
-- What I did, IIRC, was save somewhere nearby, then try to enter the shop. If it didn't work, I went to the save, and it was fine...IIRC.

I've tried the game a number of times..... the result is the same.
I'll try your other suggestions (not quoted here). But, what you said up there, did you mean start the game all over from scratch, in the Mortuary. This I know I won't be doing?

This is a big bummer. I want to finish this game.
I deleted temp, same problem. Google grouped it. Seems this is a common problem with no real solution in the threads I read. So I deleted temp and cache. Same. Thinking I had too many saved games, I deleted some of those. Same problem.
According to my OS, XP, I have 26GB free....
I've been playing for weeks, no problems until today, and I think I'm not far away from the end. I did recently do that 1.37 fixpack..... Now I regret it.
My exact error message is, "an Assertion failed in D:\Torment\source\baldur\CVisibility.cpp at line number 1528".
This exact string, I haven't seen online. Heck, I have never installed Tormet on my D: drive, where it gets D:, I don't know.

There is definitely a way around it. I'm trying to remember the actions I took.
Try this:
-- Don't let the new save be Quick Save. Make it an original one.
If that doesn't work, try...
-- Going from the last save right in front of the Shop. Walk into another building, walk out, and then try going into the Shop.

Oh none of that worked either, even going to a different map and back.
Luckily, and rare for me, I RAR'ed the whole Black Isle directory before I upgraded to the fix pack. So at most I lost a few days, long rainy days, of play and will have to do it all over again....

BTW, doesn't it seem odd that it was trying to access the d: drive when I have never had the program installed on my d: drive?
That's what makes me suspect the fix pack. Anyone think I'm wrong with this suspicion?

"You should start a new game after installing this."
- Torment Fix Pack readme.
Don't install it in the middle of the game.

Yea, I picked up on that point after the problem began.... I'm just going to unrar from the backup from some days ago.
Thanks.

Help!
I was wondering if anyone had found a fix for this as I have just encountered the same problem. The game has run fine up till now with only the occasional CTD, and now I can't continue at all! Disaster! Please help me out I've tried everything I can think of! =)

Is your problem exactly the same as the starter of this thread, Vrischika's shop crashing after installing the Fix Pack in the middle of a game? Then delete AR0609.WED and AR0612.WED from your override folder.

Not exactly - I had the problem with only 1.1 installed, and decided to install the fix patch as a possible solution (after backing up all my savegames). I will try your suggestion anyway - many thanks!

No luck with that I'm afraid

I have now been able to get round this by installing the game on another PC and porting my savegames across - seems to work fine now. A temporary solution but a workable one =D

Did you try clearing the cache and temp folders?

Seretar,
I installed the patch partially into an ongoing game. I'm not sure about your case.
I had made a backup of the saved games before applying the patch. I deleted the program, re-installed from the CD, and copied over the saved games. All was OK for me.
I actually haven't finished yet. I never seem to! I get diverted by renewed interest in RTCW:ET and then Battlefield2 came out....
But, haven't had any other problems.
