Spoiler Order of planets

Once leaving the initial planet, is it important to travel to planets in a specific order or can you just go where you like.? (Obviously if there are restrictions about going there you can't go there) Does it affect the game at all ? Having done the sky ramp and palace, got a bit stuck for somewhere to go. I'm about level 20.
