New Things to Add

What would you add to TES4 of you were one of the staff members? You can make new races, guilds, anything!

If I were a staff member, I wouldn't be able to add just anything--because everything is decided ahead of time in group meetings, with all assignments among the team of 100+ persons allocated in advanced. At the conceptual stage, the design team debates what goes on, and then prioritizes, and it's all set.

But if I had my choice, I'd go with one item they wanted to put in MW, and left out because it required too many resources: a dynamic game, in which houses and factions reacted in favor and against one another whether you were involved with them, or not.

i would add more variety of cool lookin armor and weapons. most the armor looks pretty dumb.

i wud add better travel, a "teleport" spell that can lead you to any city.

And now they have to walk around with heavy gauntlets?

Oblivion will have something "similar". There will be two possible systems of travelling. You can do it the Morrowind-Style - walk all the way in real time. Or you can "tell" your char to travel to an allready visited town - more like in Fallout I guess.

Probably there will be teleportes like the Mages Guild ones in Morrowind, but that's a different story...

When it comes to features I want I have to go with Fable. This dynamic world thingie is something I've always wanted to see in a game. According to the information Bethesda allready revealed, the AI/the script-system/the enginge/[you name it] will achieve exactly this. I don't need to add that I'm highly sceptical about that?

on another note, more things should be real time.

i got an amilet for my warrior thinking that "hey if it adds one extra hitpoint every second then if i sleep for an hour no matter how bdly damaged i am i will be full health from resting for 1 hour"

boy was i wrong....it does not get calculated into that...

The ability to sit/lay down, fully customize the appearance of your character (scars, white hair, brown hair, curled lip, large or small mustache, pointed beard, rounded beard, strait brow, bent brow, etc.), own shops, declare war on other Houses/Factions, order members of your own House/Faction when Grand Master (or otherwise sovereign ruler), create weapons/clothing/armor, marry, have children, own slaves, or be a sovereign and celibate ruler, voice interaction on your own character’s part; own ships, marshal them, battle at sea; found and build towns, usurp the throne, join the evil forces of Oblivion, found businesses, deposit money in banks; become a vampire or werewolf, or lead a vampire-hunters guild, or even become the “Grand Master” of a Vampire House and establish your own eerie castle; hold positions in government or church (whatever the religion might be), and gain nobility and medals for achieving valorous deeds for King and Country; or perhaps become a King or Lord, or otherwise form of nobility, over an established land.

I would also like to see Half-Elves, Halflings, and Gnomes.

The chained flail. That is my favorite weapon but games rarely use it and when they do they are usualy weak. And making tribes or factions based on race, like an orc tribe that can raid and burn villages. And Tieflings, those would be cool. you could choose your horns, like a rams or straight.

Exactly. It sounds like nothing more than what Ultima VI had, over a decade ago, with merchants who would close up and sleep at regular hours in their backrooms, and traveling gypsy caravans you would encounter somewhere along a few specific roads. This is extremely easy to achieve. It has even been done using scripting by modders in Morrowind. Bethsoft simply didn't add it as a feature they used, but the possibility was always there.

The only way it will matter is if they take their "Radiant AI" and apply it to something creative and ambitious, like the dynamic world concept they discussed enthusiastically a year before Morrowind's release. But that proved too ambitious, then. I doubt they'll add it, now. We'll just have to wait, and see.

I got really excited in MW when given the option to build a stronghold, hoe disappointed I was. I would improve this. Maybe own more than one, make it easier to ravel to, have people attack it. Have proper guards who walk around. Choose the style of the stronghold, such as well fortified or have more shops. make the characters living in your stronghold more important. When you have to go ask people to work in your mine, they actually go to your mine, they don't just say they will be there soon.

Agreed about the armour looking a little dodgy in morrowind, they should bring back different styles of the same armour, I can remember spending many hours trying to track down gold trimmed daedric armour in daggerfall. That was such a vanity game.

i think u should be able to hire soliders from fighters guild. i think being able to do something with huge amounts of gold would be cool like buiding a small castle or upgrading the things in ur house. :)

People actually moving around - stealing, fighting etc would be cool. Clashes between great houses in the countryside, and between Cammona Tong and theives in the street. The ability to own and run businesses would be cool (Smithies, traders, enchanters, inns and best of all stables). Getting morag tong/dark brotherhood writs on people would be fun, as others could get them on you.

Both, by the way, available as mods in Morrowind.

I've always loved Thieves and Assassins. In almost every RPG I played, I directly started with a rogue, thief, bard, or a similar class. Thus what I really want in Oblivion is an assassination and thievery system that actually works, unlike the mess they made of it in Morrowind. Some examples:

-A real, realistic criminal guild. The Thieves Guild were weak, the Morag Tong had ethics and rules, and the Camonna Tong was unjoinable. If you ever played the Suran Underworld mod, you'll know what I mean: a badass, murdering, robbing, stealing crime syndicate.
-A "backstab" system like in the Baldurs Gate series. In BG, it was very difficult to get in a good backstab position, but if you were there you had a large chance for an instant kill. In Morrowind, it was easy as pie to get behind your enemy unnoticed, but daggers did a pitiful amount of damage so you had to stab him 20 times or more. (I'm not talking about all the super enchants here, just a role playing Assassin character I made).
-A sneak system based on shadows and light, like in Splinter Cell. It's unrealistic that no-one can see me next to a campfire just because I have 100 in my Sneak skill.
-A good risk/get ratio: if you break in in a poor man's cabin, you can steal his 1 gold piece without him noticing. But you have to pass numerous guards if you want to get the 10 million goldpieces of the Emperor. In Morrowind, all good items were carried by persons: stealing from houses was useless, as you only found low-cost alchemy ingredients and books.
-Player-independent criminals. Although there was a Thieves Guild, an Assassins Guild and a slavers guild, you were never robbed once in Morrowind, except for some scripted events. I'd like to see this change: even if you don't join the Thieves guild, you should see evidence that it exists.

I could think of thousands of other examples, but this is these are the basics I'd like to see changed in TES4 :) Although I know that it's probably not going to happen...

Well the NPC's will be moving around, sleeping, going to church, and even stealing depending on their surroundings and their mood. I got this information from the elderscrolls site so it aught to be true
create weapons/clothing/armor, , own slaves, .
First you can somewhat create new items fom existing ones using the enchant skill plus there would be little point in money if you could make your own items. Second you can buy slaves at the tel aruhn slavehouse.

If you're opposed to creating your own items, consider the succes of mods like Complete Morrowind. In my opinion it's much more satisfying to mine ore, melt it and make a breast plate than to buy or find one.
