The Aldeth Sashenstar Quest

In the first part of Cloakwood Forest (where you meet Coran), you can find a vacation house with in front of it a noble from Baldur's Gate, called Aldeth Sashenstar. He's scared about some druids that have threatened him, and you can either protect him from the druids, or side up with the druids and kill Sashenstar.
Both courses of action have some interesting points; but what did you do? And why?

i protected the guy in front of that house against the druids
he helps you when you get to the city of baldur's gate
and for some wierd reason i do not like those druids

I protected him because i did not feel the druids had a good case.
If the Druids would have made him leave and if he ever came back they eould kill him, i would not of protected him

i protected him because i met him first and i know thats not a real good reason but its good it wasnt highly relevant to the end game.

I killed the druids. Their story just sounded fishy, and the nobleman should have the right to hunt. Who knows who was lying, but you get one of the best swords in the game either way you play this one out.

SPOILER
If you kill the nobleman, then you are confronted by his brother in Baldur's Gate. When he attacks you and you kill him, you get the Heavy Crossbow of Accuracy. This is one great missile weapon, people!

I, too, protected Aldeth.
In dialogue mode, when talking to the Druids, the option "Let's talk it out like reasonable men," or some such thing, is given. The Druids, reply, "Blah, blah, blah, No." Therefore, I side with Aldeth.

you can protect aldeth, do his quest in baldur's gate then kill hiim there then his brother will appear...so you can benefit a lot from this quest...if you protect him in Cloakwood. If you side with the druids you can't do his quest in Baldur's Gate because he is dead therefore he can't open the Merchant's League headquarters IIRC there is no way you could open it otherwise...

But the brother also comes after you if you kill him in cloakwood.
Me killing Aldeth depends totally on my alignment. As a Druid I felt obliged to join the other Druids in killing a snobbish defiler of the forest, but as greedy mercenary I saw more profit in helping the rich merchant.

I gotta say I killed Aldeth....

Don't get me wrong, it's not that I liked the Druids. They were actually highminded, pompous jerks. But... (spoiler)...Aldeth had the better weapon and he didn't give it up when I helped him out with the Druids. So I replayed that part and took him out. Sorta' greedy, but not sure how else I could've gotten it.[/color]

Different answer every time I play. Sometime, I protect him and sometime I don't, depending on my mood, character and alignment. I usually kill him though... But protected the first time I played.

You get it as a reward for helping him if you reach Baldurs Gate ;)

It usually depends. I usually make my characters CG, so the fact that they are both more or less murderers doesnt make me lean either way. It usually comes down to whether or not I have Jahiera in my party. If I do, I side with the druids (seems natural that she would try to influence you to side with them). If not, I kill the militant nature lovers

Well my decision to kill Aldeth seems to have had some repercussions later on.
(spoiler)
Apparently killing Aldeth prevents me from entering into the Merchants League and thus completing Scar's request that I finish off all the dopplegangers. That sucks!

Actually, the dopplegangers of Scar's quest are located in the Seven Suns Guildhouse , not the Merchant's League, so you can still complete Scar's quest if you killed Aldeth :)

I dont think so, remember Jaheira is a druid whilst they are Shadow Druids and they think very differently (they arent best pleased to see her in cloakwood 3)

Those guys arent Shadow Druid. Unless I am remembering wrong, if you side with the druids, they actually warn you about the 'splinter group' that is the Shadow Druids that reside deeper in the forest
