Only on Telos but I had a jedi sentinel with tons of points in computers, aware, persuade
fighting with a dual blade longsword in dark padawan robes.
needless to say merc commander OWNed her every single time.
had to start over.

Is this light side?
Light side sentinel is kinda hard since you don't really have good offensive spells. Unlike consular you don't have the force points to get lightining going and you end up with push which doesn't do much damage.

Try using stealth and do a flurry behind her while your teammates throw a couple of grenades. Then unload with Atton's sniper shot and any other special attacks he has, and have Kreia do heal if she has it and shock. Have your main character run around and try to avoid getting shot or hit with Melee, throwing in attacks when you recharge.
I've started with the sentinel every time, I love having points in everything and not having to rely on my teammates for breaking down items, opening doors, etc. Get Burst of Speed as soon as possible, energy resistance or armor, you should be all set.

I am currently a LS sentinel, and I have to admit that that battle is the only one up until now that has troubled me. Try to simply activate stimulants before the battle, use energy shields, grenades, maybe even mines to get rid of them. Anything is allowed (force speed and other buffing powers help a bunch too)
Also, a tactic I'm using is to save one level up for every character. Which means they're usually a little weaker than they could be, but when health runs low, you don't have to spend a turn healing up and immediately get full health. It is a little tricky to figure out whether you can level up while still saving one or not, but simply saving before leveling fixes that. This trick has saved my butt more than once.

I found the best is Jedi Consular even though people say its a load of crap just because there the strongest. But they get the job done and own everyone.

Consular is probably the easiest/strongest, because even a light sider can make comlpete use of the dark force powers without having to mind about force points. Three storms take out everything in the game (except bosses) and you recover points quite fast (especially with high wisdom, which you already have).
I think dark side sentinels are quite easy too, since storm is such a blast and you can always lay a minfield for bosses (not to mention DC100 Plauge power). Light siders are a little off balance here, since keeping up the force points for offensive powers, especially at the beginning, is hard (you can always try focusing on melee, but then why don't you just play a guardian? -it's because of the skill points, I know-)
Guardians are easy to play once you understand them (you don't have to really plan the character anyway).

I generally go with Guardian and then jedi master/sith lord as the presitige class. Bulid up all my melee and feats and when I'm happy with that switch to the presitige class even if it takes till level 20 before you do, no limits whoohoo.

No point in having STR ...
I never did understand. Once you get Finesse: Lightsaber / Melee Weapons (... tho you can get finessee melee from Zabrak Vibro) & get the DEX + WIS bonus to defense, the Main Char doesn't need STR, or any non-robe armor.
MainChar can get outrageously high def & hitrolls with DEX + WIS, plus you can use melee, ranged, or force that way.

Strength is good, since you can add 1.5x your mod to your damage if you have a double-bladed. That's the main reason I go for STR instead of DEX. And it gives a high chance of knockback when you use power attack.

i started with str because i wanted high % to hit but then i found out if dex is higher than str then it will use the dex number as the % to hit.
so i guess its just a quesiton, do u want higher dmg or higher ac

Well, if you're a consular it also matters if you're willing to waste a feat at it. (I personally wouldn't)
