Missing keycard to Museum Storage Room

Post by masa73 »

In the quest Patron of the Ancient Arts you can get 2 extra exp if you dont kill any guard during quest.
I have managed to get to the last door without killing any guard. BUT! The keycard to the last door: Museum storage room is missing. I know that I can kill the guard who is standing in the corridor and get the keycard, but it feels so wrong. When I managed to get to the last door without killing any do I really have to kill this guy to get the key. The door is not that kind of door you can lockpick. I cant find it anywhere else. Need help with this.
Please!

Museum Storage Key

I have done this once without killing the guard.... the trick is to try and encourage two guards to chase you to the laser corridor ( ending with the door you need the storage key for). If you duck in between the two then one kills the other and the key is dropped.... hey, YOU didn't killl any guard
to get it. The next time however I could only get one guard through so i had to kill him... :(

How about checking the formidable Walkthrough ?

SPOILER

The first door can be opened by reading a mail at one of the rooms, just hack into the computer and there is a mail with the code....

The easiest way...if you have a good sneak skill and dexterity is....

Shoot the window before the last door....you will be able to jump into the security room, hack the computer and disable the lasers and alarm. And open the door without any problems.

Btw...I never have shot anyone during the museum quest....

I'll think I gonna try that. But it seems to be some sort of bug. It should be a way to find the cardkey without being detected...

Hmm, i have tried that. Hacking and reset alarm and laser, but still you need a keycard to open the door. It should be a way to find that keycard without killing anyone or being detected.

Thanks anyway for trying to help me!

(looks like I have to kill'em all :)

You need to do this:

SPOILER

( from the Walkthrough ):
Continue down the green stripe until you reach an unlocked door for a room containing the Museum Workroom Key. Snatch the key for a point of Experience and then use the nearby computer to log in to the 'email' application (password: ihatemyjob).

Happened to me once. Killed all the guards, hacked the computer, looked everywhere, but couldn't open the door. I think once you've tripped the lasers the door locks and there's no way through. And there seems to be a bug that even if you go to a previous save in the museum *before* you break the beams, the door is still locked.

discipline

I did this earlier today - used purge! as a Tremere.

there appear to be other ways to get the final guard to drop the key - getting another guard to shoot him sounds possible.

there is a key-card in a workroom that is easy to miss - make sure you explore the whole basement area.

Yeah i got the workroom key, but the door still would not open for me.
I went through the whole level with no detections and I didn't break the window to hack the beams and alarm. I made the beams flicker and when thru that way and the end door wouldnt open and I went back and found no key( I already got the workroom key).

Spoiler
Not sure if it's the workroom key that's required (though it sounds like it) and if I recall correctly, this key should be obtained from the room facing the entry door to the end quest that requires a passcode (which can be obtained from a room in the far end of the red section on the same level). You can see into the room as it has a glass panel facing the door with passcode, and a high Investigate would show the stars marking it as an item to pick up. The key should be lying at the far right corner of the door with you enter the room.

What you might want to try though, is to actually, sneak though the whole level anyway, not for kicks, but might be some scipting issues (if anyone can confirm?) and perhaps also solve a related side quest just to ensure it's not because of script.

Pray that it's not a bug that was (somehow, and incredibly) never spotted until now. :p

The Inevitable Workaround

I know it's late in the day, but for anyone playing (and loving) this game these days...

I'm running Bloodlines through Steam, so it should be the latest version.
Nevertheless, I have exactly the same problem.

i.e. No matter what I do, the Museum Storage door is locked when I get to it.

If some of the posters can get through the door without a keycard, then they must have a different version of the game, because it's an absolute fact that the only way for me to get through the door is to kill the guard at the end of the corridor, thus missing out on the 2XP.

It must be a bug.

The only way I can get around this without attempting the suggested guard-killing-guard trick (and I don't feel in the least bit guilty) is to start the game in console mode and from the console, use the command:

give item_k_museum_storage_key

This command isn't listed automatically, so it wasn't obvious, but it works fine and no guards need to die.
