Good time to take on TOTSC quests

I am currently at the beginning of Chapter 7 (just escaped from Candlekeep) and my party is this:
PC Cleric, lvl 7
Jaheira, lvl 5/6
Minsc lvl 6
Khalid lvl 6
Imoen lvl 7
Dynaheir lvl 6

Dynaheir is a few hundred EXP away from levelling up.

So everyone is around 60,000 EXP (and I just noticed playing this time through that clerics have a lot of wasted EXP in the original game with 89,000 cap). I have never actually finished the game because I usually get bored with my character around Chapter 5 or 6. Because of this, I decided I was finally going to go through the whole game and not cheat (I usually am too lazy to go through and get all the tomes, so I change my stats as if I had gotten them).

I am a bit nervous about the TOTSC quest since I never beat the game outright, so I was wondering when would be a good time to take them on and if there are any tips other then Durlag's Tower is one big trap?

I started the Expansion stuff right at 60k experience, so you should be fine. Make sure your mage knows Cloudkill. Make sure your mage knows Cloudkill. Make sure your mage knows Cloudkill. Ma-...ok you get it. There is a boss fight in Ulgoth's Beard after you finish Durlag's Tower that is the hardest battle in the game. I don't know if I should tell you how to make it easy, because that ruins the awesome challenge, but there is an easy way to handle it. I beat it the hard way.

The innkeeper of Ulgoth's Beard sells a pretty cool cloak that you should probably buy.
