Sword Coast vs. Amn

Post by GEorGE »

I was just thinking one day, that the story of BG1 says that Amn and Sword Coast are on the edge of war. So I ws thinking that Swordcoast would probably get a pathetic beating from Amn, because in BG1 the player's exp limit is from 1 to 8 (9 with expansion if I remember correctly) and the same level are most of the people in Swordcoast. Now in Amn most of the people are from 9 to 20 (or close to it), so the conclusion would be that Sword Coast would lose the war between the two countries.
Now, I haven't played ToB yet, but as I understand, it takes place on the lands of Tethyr and there are people up to 40th level, so think what would happen, if Tethyr decides to attack the Sword Coast :) . Now that would be a sorry sight to see :D :D :D .

lol, yeah, in video game land the sword coast would get the crap beaten out of them but in "reality" I think things would be more balanced.
Of course the citizens of the Sword Coast could wander down to Amn, pick some locks or simply do something like return a missing teddy bear to certain ghost and then level up 2 or 3 levels. Lets see what those smug Amnians have to say then :D

Or another way actually is that maybe Sword Coast will be like Russia in most wars - push on with the masses :D . As I recall there was many more people wandering around in the streets, therefore their population is bigger and they will beat others with numbers :D . One more way though is that they will talk the amnians to death. The dialouges in BG1 were some real killers  , although the leader of the most annoying people (Neebler) moved over to Trademeet, where I had to kill him again :D .

Well, almost :D , thay both had to die anyway. It's a good thing I didn't lose any reputation because of them.

People say that I ask too many questions. Do you think so too?
I killed a rabid rabbit! I'm experianced now!
You aren't going to throw rocks at me, now, are you?
You've been really nice to me. I'll give you some rocks that other people threw at me. You just gotta promise not to throw'em. Here.

Hmmmm... . Right now I discovered, that when you hear out all his stories, he gives you 5 +2 bullets and then leaves and everyone gets 1000 quest experiance points. I used to kill him right when he was in my visibility range. Not so useful as it seems :( .

That gets rather ugly when area damage spells are brought to bear... :D

I'd hate to say this but if you have about 10 competent mages casting death spell, you have a lot of souls on screen...

The only reason the levels in the BG series differ from each location is because they got to keep it challenging for the PC. If you were at level 40, and fighting level 6 enimes, would there be much challenge? In all respects, in the AD&D games, the average gaurd is probably about level six, and the more powerful people are only about level 12 or so.

Unless some sinister/evil/unholy/impious/spamming mage comes to town/village/thorp/city/hamlet/newsgroup, and builds a golem factory/temple of darkness/planar sphere /dungeon /moon-base/corporate headquarters /child labor sweatshop / spam prog (or any combination of the above), and at about the same time that a group of wisecracking, high-level adventurers check into the nearest bar.

Come to think of it, I think I'll pen a 3e campaign where you're a bunch of low-level evil-doers being chased by a high level good guy adventuring parties, and you have to find a way to get rid of them....
