ok,

I went to the warehouse and chatted to the bum then left.

now ive gone back as i realised i dont have the room key.

cant find it anywhere.

upped gama to see things right. even went upstairs.

any other ways of getting the room key?

In the warehouse the key is on the top perch (you'll have to walk through or jump over the fire blocking the way) near where the body is hanging. It's small, but it is located up there. There's also a stereo near it. Good luck.

I'm pretty sure there's no other way into the Lucky Star Room you need to go to next, except with the key. But, I assure you the key is there. So just keep looking.
