After Durlags tower you get a dagger that some cultists in Ulgorths beard wants(in totsc). I want to know how you kill the demon that they summon. Some tips please. I am a Cleric/mage. I have a paladin (Scmitar), fighter/thief (longbow, longsword) Ranger (longbow, halbeard), another cleric/mage (up to level 4:th spells), and a thief (bow).

What level are your guys? This is the hardest fight in the game so you'll want to be as high of a level as possible. In any case, you need to kill all the cultists first. If you don't, once killed, the demon will just possess a cultists body and be reborn until they are all killed. Have your clerics throw up every possible defensive protection you have (bless, chant, remove fear, etc.) on your party members. Haste your party members with your mage. Equip one of your members with a Fireball wand and/or potions of fiery explosion. Make sure your mage(s) have fireball memorized. Cast vocalize on your spell casters. Make sure you have dispel magic memorized. Lots of them. The demon has an spell that if cast on an character will turn them into a ghast. If they turn into a ghast, they cannot be turned back so you need to remove the spell with dispel magic before they turn.
What I did was attack the main cultist before she even started talking to me as she is the most dangerous of the cultists. Meanwhile I had my mages and my thief throw fireballs/firey potions at the other cultists at the back of the room. Try to place them so they hit multiple cultists. When the cultists are dead, bring it to the demon with everything you have left.
This fight will take many reloads. Accept the fact that one or two of your party members will die. Don't get frustrated.

A point I cannot stress enough.
For your Thief, Fighter/Thief, and Ranger, I'd HIGHLY suggest Arrows of Dispelling, particulary if any of your casters w/ Dispel Magic are hit w/ the demon's gaze or any members of your team may be at risk of dying before the spell can be casted. Just strike them with the arrow and the demon's gaze (drain AND holding spell) should be dispelled.
You can buy them from Halbazzer in the Sorcerous Sundries and Black Lily in the Thieve's Guild, both in the East District of Baldur's Gate.

I agree with Galuf on the arrows of dispelling....
But make sure that your mage either has a fully charged Wand of Monster summoning or alot of Monster summoning spells and has as many magic missile spells memorized as possible. Also make sure to arm all your archers with +2 arrows, your slings with +2 bullets, or your crossbows with +2 bolts.
Before you enter the cellar, cast Protection from Evil and haste on the whole party. Have your mage protected with Mirror Image and the Minor Globe of Protection. And then enter the cellar using the Loose triangle formation (so that you're spread out once the cellar loads). Once you enter the cellar, immediately have your mage Summon Monsters around the middle of the Cultic Symbol before any dialog starts. Once the diag is finished, the demon is summoned up and should be surrounded by any Monsters you summoned. Now kill the talking priest and then start taking out the rest of the cult members while your Mage continues to Summon Monsters around the Demon to keep him at bay. Keep an eye on your party photos. If you notice a strange symbol resembling a "cobra snake" or a "ghost" on one of them, have the archer with the dispell magic arrow shoot that player to dispell that evil affect. You don't want any player to be affected by that for too long, trust me. Once all the cult members are dead, start firing away at the demon with all your +2 missiles and have your Mage start casting Magic Missiles.
This is how I did it. And every one of my party members came away totally unscathed.

I definately agree with Thomas77. I normally use parties proficient in ranged weapons for just such a case. When you don't want to get close to something big and powerful, pelt it from afar with missiles and spells. I always used to lose an NPC or two in this battle due to the death spell the demon casts, so the arrows of dispelling is a great tip! Thanks everybody that mentioned it!

Demon in cellar
I tried combinations of all that kind of stuff, but my 7-8th level party would always just get killed by the demon after I took out all the cultists. I guess im just not very good. Anyways, heres what I did to kill him. I had a mage character (bard) go down their alone (and invisible) with a ring of invisibility and 2 cloudkill scrolls. Once I casted cloudkill I'd turn back invisible. If you cast the cloudkills so they cover all the paralyzed cultists all you haft to do is wait while the demon (which is very vulnerable to cloudkill for some reason) dies and is reborn, dies and is reborn, until he runs out of cultists and dies. Kind of a cheesy way to do it but, hey!

This is also a good time to use otiluke's resiliant sphere, (when isn't)? Hit the demon with it and then kill of the cultists.

as mentioned, outlikes sphere is really useful here. have your mage memorize 2-3 of them. Cast one on the demon, and start killing all the cultists. figure out how long it will last, and cast another one before the first one wears off. two should be more than enough time to kill all the cultists. Then wait for the sphere to wear off, and kill the demon. Alternately, you can hurt people by punching them when they are in a outlike sphere, so when you're done with the cultists, punch the demon. If you're good, he will have like 1 hitpoint left (i dont think you can die while outlikes affects you), and will be unconcious. you know what to do...

That is so cool, I didn't know that would work!
This is also a good time to use otiluke's resiliant sphere, (when isn't)? Hit the demon with it and then kill of the cultists.
More awesome advice I never thought of.
I must have been really lucky the first time I beat that demon.

Yes, it works, but be aware that - like many other arrows - the shooter can miss, so a couple shots may be necessary. Very effective regardless.

Quite possibly.
