Favorite Fight

Well, just post your favorite fight here: be it because it opposed such an amazing challenge/life experience or just because it was fun in some way or another.
At the moment, my favorite fight must be the Doomsayer you meet in the area where you encounter Captain Brage. It is the quest with the archeologist and the cursed idol. Somehow you don't need to kill him, as he just talks gibberisch to you and doesn't hurt the archeologist fellow, but he's just so evil and that you get 4000 exp. for it makes it quite worthy. I just succeeded in killing him, while contstantly holding him up with four skeletons, but I forgot to save...
Well, let's kick some Doomsayer butts!

Hey Amazing, I personally seem to like the fight with Devorin, (I think is how it is spelled), Mage, pretty tough fight. If you have Tales of the sword coast installed I like all of Durlags Tower. Great roll playing experiance there for me. Those Dopplogangers are very sinister.

I definately agree with Pat on this one. Davaeorn (that's how the GameBanshee Walkthrough spells it, but I thought it was Davorean) is one tough, but exciting battle. He Shadow Doors around his quarters like a blink dog and his offensive spells will send any inexperienced party home in toe tags and body bags. Just look at Pat's message above on Durlag's Tower for my opinion!

The fight with Daveorn is kind of strange, sometimes I can kill him in 5-10 seconds, other times I don't even get a hit on him before party members start dying. Its pretty fun though, there isn't another battle like it.

It's been a long time since I played the game but I always really enjoyed splitting up the party to invade the bandit camp from different places and having the party converge on the center tent for the showdown.

The bandit camp is another fun battle. Roleplaying there is a lot of fun. So many different tents to invade! Looting there is pretty good too. I could never really converge on the bandit camp from all sides, b/c my party would get mowed down by the various archers. My more lightly armored party members would get fried pretty quick, b/c there are a lot of those pesky bandit archers. I've never gotten to fight Tazok at the camp, though. Does one have to be evil to "join the bandits" in Larswood or Peldvale? I always end up killing those little emissaries.

Although it can be annoying, one of my favorite battles is with the Warders from Durlag's Tower. Those things converge on you with their own tactics, and pack QUITE a punch.
They also make an interesting sound when they die.

These four really give me a run for my money every time I go through Durlag's Tower. They are tough and take a long time to die. Considering they're dwarves, it's understandable that it takes a lot to put them 6 feet under. Proud of your dwarven heritage now, Galuf?
Always a fun battle, simply because it actually takes some thinking to win most of the time.

Aye, and in the end, you get closer to reapin' some greater rewards.

The fight against Prat, Tam, Sakul and Bor in the last Candlekeep Catacomb is one I've always liked. It allows for roleplaying and tactics. One is able to use the abilities of any character fully. There are several angles from which to attack. It's a fight that draws me more within the game.
Actually, that whole area is wickedly neat. There are also the spiders and the greater basilisks.

I'd agree with this. It was probably the most challenging fights I encounted in BG.

Lots of inivisibility/stealth and poison arrows. Plunk one, run away, come back later to loot the corpse.

Also interesting to battle are the Phoenix Gards, summoned by the vampire Daer'Ragh in Nashkel. They're quite a bunch, and that they revive two times before really dying and finally give their last salute as a fire ball when they do, makes you kinda careful if you don't want your entire party getting roast. Also cool is that the Amnish guards strive to your side to assist you, and that you can create a complete civilians massacre without having to pay for it (yeah, I'm sick and twisted
)
Though it's a bit of a dissapointment that Daer'Ragh himself keeps coming back when you click his gravestone, even if you just killed him (I know, he's a vampire, but still...) and that you get only a meagre 100 exp. for the guards and only 30 exp. for the vampire... (who has a lot more hitpoints).
Then again, I guess that this is definitely not part of the main story line or a useful sidequest, but just a little bit of hidden fun by the Bioware chaps.

Well, after winning a good clean fight with the Warders last night, and mopping the floor (with a few reloads here and there, I confess) of Levels 2 and 3 with Greater Dopplegangers, 3 Greater Wyverns, and all but one of the rooms before the chessboard match, I'd say that having a 6-person party headed by a Bard at medium difficulty isn't as difficult as it may sound. Then again, I am somewhat of a seasoned player.
Besides, my Bard just reached 9th level, no mods/fixes (inc. level cap-remover) added!

Looks like your bard soon can take place in the Swordcoast Hall of Fame, next to names like Elminster, Volothamp Geddarm and (this week especially popular) Drizzt Do'Urden
Is level 9 the maximum that you can reach? Or does this depends on experience?

What is the name of this infamous bard? And who do you have in your party, Galuf? I'm pretty good with BG games, but the warders almost always kill someone in my party. Oh, and how high a level can a bard reach with TotSC?

Well, the infamous Bard's name is...*kettle drum roll* Jason. My party consists of:
Khalid (Lvl 7 Fighter)
Minsc (Lvl 7 Ranger)
Jaheria (Level 6 Fighter/ 6 Druid, could reach Druid level 7 before the end of the game)
Imoen (Lvl 8 Thief, closing on lvl 9)
Dynaheri (Lvl 8 Mage)
How high he can reach is unknown, but with this party, I'm pretty sure level 9 at medium/Core Rules difficulty is about the max. Unlike later editions of D&D, classes in this game require different amounts of EXP to level, so a Bard or Thief would definitely level at an easier pace than a Fighter or Paladin. Even though I hardly have a chance, if my Bard reaches 10th level, I'll be shocked.
I know The Temple of Elemental Evil (which is 3.5 Edition) has every class level at the same amount of experience per level, but I'm not sure about Icewind Dale 2 (3rd Edition).

Ninth level is tops. Although the first time I played BG2, I imported a bard from BG1 and when I started out the game I immediately had the "level up" symbol to go to 10. Kind of weird huh?
On to topic - Galuf, I just "mopped the floor" with the warders myself last night as well. Not one person lost more than 25 hit points, the battle was over in like 10 minutes. That has been a trouble spot for me every other time I played, but I think the most difficult (I.E. Fun for me) battle is the cultists ritual thing in Ulgoth's Beard. The first time I played BG:TOSC, I was so pissed I had to quit playing for a few days.

Demons are wusses at Core Rules difficulty
Well, I can say that the final fights for the entire Durlag's Tower quest (the demon Aec'tlec) was easier this time. When I fought the demonknight 2 nights ago, my party just communally clobbered him, the fiend having few chances to cast a spell and getting
What I did is that I had every member used ranged weapons w/ +2 ammunition (as well as Minsc, Khalid and Imoen equipped with Arrows of Dispelling for that wretched gaze that demon used), and just circled the beast while the demon got peppered with magic ammo.
Now it's on to the Wolfwere Islands w/ Khalid nearing level 8.

I love pelting harder enemies from afar with missile weapons. And the demonknight just looks like a guy who would get seriously pissed by people doing that. Oh, well...too bad for him...
