Im new to the game and this forum.

Post by Demon_dave »

well here is the deal im going to ask you lots of "irritatingly easy to answer questions" that i dont know because im new to the game and desperatly need of some help. well to start off with im not that far into the game im just roaming about in some woods at the moment trying to stay alive and fearing each fight as they seem to almost kill me each time. so what i need is some helpfull hints on how to win fights without dying so often and having to load up again. i have 5 members in my team i will list them if you would like.
when the characters die, can i revive them and if so how? it was so much easier in final fantasy with the phoenix downs it was instant life but this there is nothing obvious. im guessing it tells me all this in the manual but as the game i have is off a friend i dont have the manual so i have been thrown in the deep end. any other helpfull hintsfor begginers would be much appreciated. thanks for your help and patience.

Dying will happen.

Some hints:
-- Make sure the character has proficiency in the weapon you have them use(for ex. if the main character -you- is good with daggers and bows, make sure you use those)
-- Buy potions, or give the potions you have to the melee characters
-- If a character is taking too much damage, back them away and let the rest fight on
-- You can run away -- although I know it's unthinkable ;)
-- Don't go big fightin' 'til you're big pimpin', ya dig?

**To revive someone you'll need to get to a temple. If the character is obliterated then they cannot be resurrected.

Well, welcome to the forum and welcome to the game of Baldur's Gate. All you need is practice, because I think almost everybody that started once got slaughtered their first few battles. Stay away from the big stuff until you level up and are capable of fending the larger beasties off. Who's in your party thus far? Lemme guess, your personal character (PC) and Imoen, Jaheira, Khalid, Montaron, and Xzar? My guess is that one of these fellows died alread. To bring them back, all you have to do is go to a temple, talk to the cleric, and pay to have them ressurrected. It costs a bit of gold, but then you have your friends back.

my party/team consists of the follow,
obviously the main character i made.

Imoen - lovely lady, gave her a bow and she is great.

Montaron - dunno what he does but he is there.

Xzar - dunno what he does either but he adds man power an all.

Garrick - Oh my, if anyone else has him you wont need me to tell you how much of a wooss he is. and he sings like a girl!! proper lady boy with his harp.

Minsc - he is pretty cool.

right have i missed some cool people i can get and worth looking for. im sure u will see my team aint amazing but they are getting better. all are on level 1 at the moment. Ah i have also found the "steal" feature, and found that i can pick locks, if only i knew about it earlier all those bloody locked chests and doors, could have loads of items/cash. anyways any more help would be good thanks.

Also it could be wise to go to the Friendly Arm Inn and pick up Khalid and Jeheira, they are at the inn in the top left corner. Khalid is a good fighter later on, and Jaheira has heal spells, which are pretty necessary eventually.

The Friendly Arm is 2 right and one up from Candlekeep.

To have Minsc join you, you have to agree to help him save a girl. Make sure you pay attention to all dialogues. After so much time, he'll turn on you for not helping. He even warns you.
(highlight) -- You'll need to go to the Gnoll Stronghold. It should've been added to the map when Minsc joined. It's in the southwest corner.

When you accept him into your party, you should go to the Gnoll Stronghold RIGHT AWAY.

check this out!! you see i realised if a set amount of time passes minsc will turn on me if the mission aint complete. i also realised there was no way in hell of completing it with him in my team or in fasct moving anywhere. so first i thought i will leave him on some map while i send a smaller party to complete the mission thinking if hes not there he can turn on me, however that wouldnt work. so then i thought i'll turn on him, kill him, so now he is dead, dead people cant just turn on me so problem solved, aslong as i dont bring him back to life before the mission is complete. see genious here!! so the moral of the story is, if all else fails kills the lil buggers!!

Or just wait until a convenient time to bring them along and do their quest. An NPC's level (when you first accept them into your party) is based upon the level of your character or party (not entirely sure which).

Minsc is a very valuable NPC to any Good Aligned party, so I'd suggest going back to a previous save and just waiting to pick him up until you have time to go sniff around the gnoll stronghold and save Dynaheir for him. Here's another peace of advice for you, but I'm not sure if it's spoiler material or not so I'm going to black it, so highlight this to read: Once you get to the gnoll stronghold with Minsc, you have to save Dynaheir or he leaves eventually. Unfortunately, if you have all six party member slots filled up, then you can't pick up Dynahier without leaving an ally at the gnoll stronghold. I suggest leaving one character (possibly Imoen) in Nashkel when you go to save Dynaheir, and if you don't want Dynaheir you can always kill her off and then Minsc won't leave, though he will go berserk when she dies.

Demon dave, what alignment is your personal character (PC) that you created? If you have to leave someone behind to pick up another character, it should be someone that will leave eventually later due to reputation restrictions.

Like Xzar and Montaron.

Usually, I beat Chapter 2 first, and at the begninning of Chapter 3 I take the Wizard NPC that you can rescue from capture (a Lawful Neutral Elf Enchanter named Xan) and take him along, recruiting Minsc in Nashkel, taking such a team directly to the Gnoll fortress. After I make up to where Dynaheri is in the fortress, I drop everything that wasn't personally Xan's on the ground and then when I have have Dynaheir recruit Dynaheir (replacing Xan), I'll have her pick it all up afterwards.

She's in the Northeastern section of the map, in the middle of the gnoll stronghold itself, towards the east. The map of the area of GameBanshee's main site will help you.

Dynaheir is a great invoker and she's lawful good, so she can travel the distance of the game with you if you so choose!
