custom portraits

As I have decided to start the game over and play it through again, I wanted to use some custom portraits in my game to make the chars more interesting. I have checked any and all threads I could find and have turned all images into the right sizes and .bmp, then added them to the folder. Problem is, when I go in the game and click the custom button, nothing shows up. Even worse, after I kept trying, the game now refuses to open at all. It keeps saying that I need to send an error report and that something has caused the game to shut down. Any ideas?

Have no clue... I'd send the portraits to someone to try it out with another game (I mean, another IWD installation) and see what happens.

first thing, although you resized it, did you name it properly? Remember, the name of the pic can only be 7 letters longs and it has to end with the right letter. For the large portrait you can have up to 7 letters for the name then at the end it has to have "L". For example XXXXXXXL.bmp.
The small one is 7 leeters and a "S" ( XXXXXXXS.bmp )
make your own folder in the icewind dale 2 directory called "portraits"
be sure to spell it right

Incorrect picture names shouldn't cause the game crashing anyway...

some accually can, if the pic is corrupted with the right virus, trying to use it will cause corruption of the whole directory. That includes every IWD2 file. this may not be the cas with you but just consider it as a possibility

well hello i finally found a "recent" forum about this thread
i have a problem with these portraits
anyone i download or i create with the godd size and good letters, i put them in the portraits directory and they show up in the game
problem is when i click on the small portrait in the selection of the small portrait, in character creation mode,my pc crashes and returns to desktop saying "error at line number 0000 (I mean the number is always different...)"
all sizes are good, i even tried those on the officiel icewind dale's site but they do the same thing
dunno what to do i,m desesperated...
