Twinkies are a sort of cake substance rolled around a sickeningly sweet, 'cream'-like interior and sold in a cellophane package. The things have so many preservatives that archeolgists will dig them up intact thousands of years from now and mistake them for some kind of sacrificial offering...

Is this indiacative of all American food? I mean, I heard that something like 70% of Americans were overweight and if this is the kind of crap you nosh on I'm not surprised.

Yes, it's one of the extreme things, but yes. It's sad isn't it?

I just got this picture in my head of people burying their family with leftover twinkies and singing the song as a sacrificial thing. I just woke up, should get more than 4 hours sleep if this stuff is happening already!

Perhaps if you ate less twinkies you'd get more sleep?

I think there is a record for speed eating both twinkies and peeps, perhaps I'll look for it. Also, there is at least one project on the web that examines twinkies "scientifically." I'll look for links and edit them in. :D

Edit: Here's one.

http://www.twinkiesproject.com

Edit: Twinkies are an enduring American Icon? Wow, we're pathetic. :p

http://www.junkfoodnews.com/twinkies.htm

Edit: Similar to the Twikies Project above, but for peeps.

http://www.peepresearch.org/

Edit: A little peep info for people not familiar with them.

That should about do it for now. I couldn't find any records though. I did see some contests, but hey were small time.

I've only eaten one in my life, and that was years ago. Not at all the reason why I don't sleep.

My step-uncle runs a Little Debbie franchise will all sorts of little snack cakes. When I go back to my mothers, she loads me up with the stuff he drops off for my family. When the date expires on them, he hands them out to family. They can't be sold but they're still good. I usually don't eat the things unless I'm too drunk to cook and it's too late to order food. Your better off making your own food, but....those you just unwrap and your all set.

Which reminds me, I have brownie mix! I should make some and cheer my friend up with brownies. :)

Ooh, dark chocolate. Severe lack of dark chocolate products here!

My mom used to work for hostess and she would do the same thing with those little fruit pies. I lived on those in high school. I ate one every day on the way there. :p

Brownies eh? Make sure not to get any seeds in them. ;)

I love dark chocolate and you can only get decent stuff in a afew places and you reallyu pay for it.

I'll send a care package of American food odditees to any european that is willing to send me a little decent chocolate.
