My cavalier, Minsc, Aerie etc. killed him too, no reputation lowering, no angry teammembres, just kill the guy!

If you want to role-play the game, I would suggest you do not kill him but if you are a power gamer then I would suggest you kill him.

cowled wizerds are trully evil. as a good law abiding do-gooder, you should administer some justice and kill him.

Hold onto your virtue! - (Spoiler)
You can get around it (but it makes Edwin difficult as a party member
). When asked to kill (by an evil wizard working for an evil thief) refuse. Kill Edwin and all his evil thief buddies (use your detect evil/know alignment if you don't believe me). Edwin has the key to Mae'Var's strong box on him. Get the documents, see Renal Bloodscalp, then rid the world of Mae'Var too! And you didn't have to murder ANYONE (except for..hey that's not..oh well). - Curdis upholder of right (err, that's right isn't it?)

you stay good by killing an evil wizard instead of killing an evil wizard because an evil wizard told you to kill an evil wizard? my head hurts, lol.

Difficult as a party member , I believe you mean impossible right. HighWatcher Zubie gives the impression that to kill the cowl wizard is not role-playing ,but just hacking & slashing your way through the game.
