what does alignment modifier mean.or what does it do.

I'm unsure as to what exactly you mean. If you're referring to the alignment modifier in terms of spells (when you're trying to level up), it simply means that in order to purchase the given spell or take a level in it, you need that much more evil or that much more good. For instance, to learn Heal Life you need to be a good character. So if you're too far evil it won't let you purchase the spell. It will give you an alignment modifier sum of how many more good points you need to purchase given rank. Or something like that.
