Big PC (?) problems, need help!

In a previous thread in the Tob forum I though to have problems with a mods, but I found out thet my problem are more general:
I started while I was playing in ToB and in the pocket plane I was summoned for the Red Badge challenge (a Tactic component); the process ask to change Tob disc for SoA n°2 disc, but after doing that the PC seems to freeze (it couldn't seem to load up the new area).
I thought that the problem could be in the mod, so I reinstalled Tactics mods, but the problem persisted. Anyway as long as I was playing in Tob skipping WK (where you get automatically summoned for the challenge) the game worked fine.
Then I tried to load an old SoA game and to my surprise I was unable to load it (using the disc n°2).
So the problem was not on the mod. I made a scan disk (just for sake) and I decide to make a new installation of BG2. I unistalled the game (I directly unistalled the main game, without prior unistalling the mods, was thet an error?) and then I started a new installation.
I used the disc. n°1 and everything seems to work fine (it isn't the first time I installed BG2) till a moment when the program asked for disc n°2 (at about 72% of installation); I changed the disc and again the PC is blocked (the process doesn't continue). I tried again using this time the backup copy of the disc n°2 but the results were the same.
I can't figure out which is the problem, if is the disc n°2 maybe corrupted (but is it possible that also the copy made long before is corrupted too?) or there are other problems regarding the PC?
Is ther eanybody thet can help me (I wouldn't like to end here my BG2 games)?

here's a thought

Try installing the minimum install... Then change in manually to a full install...
You just have to copy the files yourself and edit the ini file to point in the right direction...

Let me clarify a bit. Copy the directory that is in disks 2-4 (I think it is actually called "Disk 1", etc. Stick it into you bg2 directory (the whole folder, not just the contents). Then use notepad to open the baldur.ini file in the bg2 directory... Change the INSTALL TYPE=1 to INSTALL TYPE=3, then change the CD2=D:\ to CD2=C:\PROGRAM FILES\BLACK ISLE\BG2\DISK2

I may be a little off on the details there, but that should be enough for you to figure it out...

Post back if this is gibberish to you... Most folks here will know what I'm talking about...
