I've lent my BG2 to a friend and am now preparing characters in BG1. If I play a druid in BG1 and dualclass early, then I will need 15+ in Charisma and wisdom and 17+ in strength. As I transfer it to BG2, will the avenger-kit option be open to me even if I have 17 or 18 (-2) in strength or must I have 18+1-2=17? I know that I have the shadowkeeper option, but it somehow feels wrong to me.

I don't exactly understand your question. Does this help?

If you are dualing to a Fighter, then you need a 17 Str, 15 Wis (and Cha?). However, if you are dualing to a Druid, you need to have a 15 Str 17 Wis (but then you couldn't choose an Avenger Kit)

I'm not sure you can pick kits for your first dual class, if its completed that class before you finished BG1. You can download Tutu, which gives you BG2 interface for BG1. Among other things, it enables all the BG2 kits in BG1.

You can pick a kit for the first class kit if the character is dual-classed.

I guess the best answer seems to be that you will just have to wait and see. If it does turn out that you need a higher str. than you anticipated, just up it via the console.

Or you could run a quick test by creating a BG1 character with GateKeeper, then importing it into BG2, if it works, Yay, if not, you will need to try another solution.

Alas, the question has not been answered. If I use BGtutu then the answer would certainly be no as the -2 in strength and constitution comes into play. The idea was to play as a pure druid in BG1, dualclass at level 7 into a fighter and then get the avenger kit at the beginning of BG2.

I'm pretty certain I recall an old post that said you could have a STR higher than 16 if you imported.

I recommend you to take dj_venom's advice to try it out using ShadowKeeper to raise a character, then importing it to SoA.

Yes, I could do that, but as I started the thread with I have lent my BG2 to a friend of mine. Otherwise I could easily have dualclassed a druid at level 2 and found out myself.

Starting with tutu, you could make an STR 16 druid, and give him the tome to increase STR to 17, enough to dual later.
Or, starting in BG normal, give him 18+tome = 19, and if it gets reduced by the kit, doesn't matter. If not, you got STR 19, which isn't too bad either... Or, from a roleplaying point of view, maybe you should voluntarily reduce STR and CON after picking the kit, if the game doesn't do it for you. In any case, with 18+tome you're on the safe side.

Still no answer to the question I'll give up now and find out the answer in a month or so when I get my game back. I'll simply have to play another character until then. Poor me.

Well, sometimes the best things are worth waiting for.

But if you want to play a druid(Avenger)->fighter why dual at such low lev?
At 7th lev you will miss all the really good druids spells (iron skin, insect plague, fire elemental), although you'll get the avendger kit spells.
You should dual at 10th lev. (125k exp and 2 5th lev. spells) or better at 12th lev. (at 300k exp and 2 6th lev. spells). You will get the class back at 13th lev. of fighter (1250k exp) wich in SoA isn't a long way.
So you will end up with a fighter with some good spelcasting ability.
That my 2 cents.

I just played through to ToB with a Totemic Druid / fighter, dualled over at level 12. Wow - very powerful and flexible, with anti-spellcaster spells, buffing spells, everything. The other point is that it only took 300K xp to get the druid up to level twelve which goes by very quickly, so you can get over to your fighter class before you know it.

Um... Are you allowed to get kits for dual-classed characters when importing to BGII?

Yes.

Don't know if anyone remembers this thread, but the answer was that the stats remain the same when you import, even if you pick an avenger. Sort of a bug if you ask me.

Can't you just install BGTutu (and Tutu patch) and start from the beginning of BG1 as a Druid Avenger?
