Bad Domain Choices

I was looking in the 3e PHB and I realized this.

Some of the domains suck! Healing in particular.
All of the spells but two I would never memorize unless I needed it before hand and the spells I would memorize are high level and redundant. Also the granted power is weak. +1 caster level? Come on!

What other domains do you hate?

Domains! Schools and spheres were much better. Why did they need to change the terminology? It seems that spells are much more feat oriented in 3e, which takes away from creative spell casting, imo

well i dont like the fact that some domains only give +1 caster level. or the fact that you can use its power once a day. if your deity is going to be that stingy with their gift then why even give it at all?

I actually like domains because it allows more customization of the cleric that you didn't have in 2e. Unless you used optional or house rules all clerics were basically the same.

Secondary question: What domains should I pick for my cleric? I'll be a cleric of Moradin, Pelor, or st. Cuthbert.

id go with palor if its there first camp. always good to have a healer. besides its good to have the healing domain, +1 to healing caster lvls? i wish i had that when i started out.

I can't stand the healing domain. Read the first post. It's a terrible domain. ;)

i know it gives you a bad spell-like power, but just think about those who are just starting out. everyone needs a cleric that can heal, i would have killed a mage for the chance that a cleric comes to help. stupid monk making us think he was a cleric and then snapping his own neck!

the war domain is good! doesn't Morradin have that one?

the healing domain is ok. it's not good, but it's not bad either.

the destruction domain is my favorite

Edit: i forgot. the strenght domain is useful. it has a goodly granted power!

Keep in mind that you can't pick domains opposite to your alignment though.

But I like the heal domain, it gives you a free heal spell so you can use other spells with less care to keep heal spells for wounded partymembers.

I don't like the animal domain as I think it doesn't fit the cleric, but that's just a personal feeling.

Sun domain, great for being ultra anti-undead.

I agree, healing domain is bad.

I'm fond of protection myself.

Healing s***s big time. Protection, Magic, Destruction, Strength and Earth (Stoneskin!) are pretty good IMHO.

Rob, there's no reason to memorize any healing spells(well, cure spells anyway) because you can lose another spell for it at any time.

I like the one's that Rudar and Waesel posted. Strength is awesome. not so great at first level, but once you get to like level 6 or so it rocks. At level 20 you can punch through a dragon! Espescially if you already have a strong character. Take a cleric of Kord, if you started with an 18 in str and added all boosts to it you would be at 23, then ad 20 to that! 43 is a crazy high str even if it is for just one round. Plus you are bound to have magic items to buff it more by then. You could easily get 50 str for one round.

if you have an evil alignement, you cant trade spells for healing spells, but inflict. if you are neutral, you can choose when making the character...

what about war? dont remember it, but a friend said it was good...

Yeah, evil clerics could use the memorized heal spells, but I don't know of any evil deities with heal domain.

War is pretty good, you get Martial Proficiency in you deity's favored weapon and weapon focus in it. Plus the spells are pretty good. Combat based of course. A good shoice if you have no mage because you get more combat ability in your spells.
