Why 1 Component for Adv Medpak?
Why 1 Component for Adv Medpak?
There is something so disturbing in the force that I just had to tell you all.
Really, it is just a stupid question, so please don't throw rocks, rockets, sticks and stones or anything else for that matter for my embodiment of stupidity.
In the lightsaber upgrade guide it says that Advanced Medpacks break down into four components. Apparantly in my game, they only break down into one. I was using the upgrade bench that belongs to the blind mechanic on Nar Shadaa with both Mira and Bao-Dur, with repair skills up at approximatly 30, seeing that they can't use the on on the Ebon Hawk. My main character has no skill whatsoever except on persuade and treat injury, so that could be it.
Have I gone insane?
Have the game gone insane?
Or is the force just against me?
Or... should I give up my hopes and do it with repair packs instead? They're just about the cheapest item's you'll ever get your hands on and they do give you 1 component.
SPOILER:
After you fight Atris is there anywhere you can buy / sell items or workbenches?
Thank you all if thou chooses to reply.
May the force be with you.

Maybe it's a mistake? Maybe the author really meant that the adv. medpac breaks down into four chemicals? Which might make more sense as in terms of physical components a medkit is just a box, but it is full of medicines and things.
All in all does it really matter? For the sake of a few components each just break down something else.
Your other questions:
There are no shops after you fight Atris but there are workbenches on Citadel Station, The Harbinger and Trayus Academy

I feel awfully strange about this, seeing that the author of the guide apparantly wrote in EXTREME detail (At least compared to me, hehe.)When at the merchant, look for "infinite" Advanced Medpacs, at 80 credits apiece. Each Advanced Medpac breaks down into 4 components, the cheapest and most practical component-to-cost ratio I've found.
To get 1000 components, you'd need 250 Advanced Medpacs, or 250 x 80 = 20,000 credits. Near the end of the game, by keeping and selling the items you do not use (rather than breaking them down), you should very easily have over 100,000 credits (or much more if you search everywhere). With that much money, you can create at least 10 of the very best upgrades in the game (Lightsaber, Melee, Ranged, etc.) assuming one party member has the skills.
Thanks for the tip, I'll fire up the game and see how it goes with the chemicals, not the components. Maybe there is a way to make it equal 4 in the end. Otherwise, I guess it's repair kit time.
EDIT: (It is likely that the X-Box and the PC versions are different. I've heard of the handmaiden robe, but from what I see I have encountered no such thing. Freedon' s lightsaber is supposed to give you 500 components, but on my game it is only 25. Heh.
Is there any way I can buy a lot of things at a time?
And break down a lot of them at a time?
Clicking 2000 times isn't pretty.
And: Which store can you sell your items for the highest price like Yavin in the original game? I'm currently using Akkere and the Rodian store on Nar Shadaa.
It has been changed at some point in time, possible only for the PC version?, because IIRC then medpacks breaks into chemicals in my game, and not components.
Possible to avoid this "money exploit"
And I belive it is threat injury skill which governs how much you can get out of medpacks? But I never bothered much with breaking them down or creating new, because I had no need for extra money or need for extra medpacks in my game.

Insert signature here.
I belive that your problem lies in the fact that your character has low repair skill. I noticed that when I use bench with another character it uses that characters skills for item creation but it use MY repair skill for item breakdown. I'm not sure if that's just some bug I had or not, but that is how bench and lab station work for me.
Basically anything breaks down into components in my game. Not everything breaks down into chemicals, though. For Chemicals, I get 26 chem for a Advanced Medpack.
I found chemicals a waste of time, as I never had to use a medpack or grenade... I probably used one medpack and 3 grenades, and I'm on the last Academy missions.
I will try getting myself a high repair thru the savegame editor and see what happens.
But now my greatest troubles aren't really medpacks, even though it rather strange...
It is having to change more than 250,000 cash into components.... lol

Ripe, you are exactly correct. Now I get 4, which I think is the maximum. For the "Shyarn" blade, I get 900. That saves me 1798 clicks compared to doing it the repair kit way. (This I tested with 14 Int + 25 Repair, as opposed to 8 Int and 0 Repair.)
Now that's one good reason to be a sentinel. Save having to click.
Potential Spoiler (Not really, but I did it anyway.):
If you are a sentinel and become a weapon master do you get force jump?
Thank you all for your help.

it could be an error in the game also.
On one play through, it got stuck where no matter what character i used, everything was worth only one component or one chemical

maybe I'm crazy but on the PC version, the advanced medkits can only be broken down into chemicals. I tried editing my repair skill to really high to see if that would change, but it doesn't. And I haven't really found much of a use for chemicals. Is this a bug or do other PC users have the same issue?

Well, yeah, I thought this was strange too, but when I reloaded my last savegame (somewhere late in the game, on the ebon hawk), I could break down nearly all items into components, even medpacks. It's really strange, 'cos I'm quite sure I couldn't do this at the start.
Edit: ok, this wasn't entirely true, you cannot breakdown any items into components that can be created at the medlab. Some implants that cannot be created, can be broken down into components though, and the sonic detonator too.
But the strangest thing is, the workbench on Malachor DOES allow breaking down medpacks, grenades and such.

when you're breaking down items for components, it always goes from ur repair skill, no matter who it using the workbench...my suggestion is to have one of the leaders for your two missions where you aren't there (tomb of freedon nadd and rescue on the droid yaut) have a high repair and break down ur components there
Just go into solo mode and it uses that character's repair instead of yours. Much easier.
that didnt work for me.. i think my game is quite messed up though cause every single item i have is 1 compenet, and when i switch to either my droid or bao-dur(both whom have over 30 repair and comp use) i still get one. I even tried to solo mod thing and still nothing. its quite annoying. any suggestions?
