hey, i'm upgrading my dell dimension 4550... 1.2 ghz processor 400 mhz front side bus... 768 mb ram... right now i've got a 32 mb ati rage ultra 128, i've got agp, can i pick any card to use? i'm looking at the XFX
GEFORCE FX 5200 256MB DDR TV. when i try to play, it stutters like crazy... the usual, i put 512 more ram in it and it didn't fix it... any ideas?

a few more things... i've tried overclocking the card, no deal... i reduced the memory that system restore uses, i've increased the paging file to 1150mb, the max that i can. i've adjusted the computer to boost perfomance. basically i've tried everything without buying a new card, now i'm ready to buy one and i want to pick the right one.....

Before you run out and buy a new card, check the settings on your existing card. Usually, it will by default tune the card to match the capabilities of your machine, which, in your case, sounds like it's going for quality. Change every setting you can find to the highest performance setting it has.

I had the same problem with my Radeon, and after changing the card settings for performance across the board, the stuttering reduced dramatically.

Well, if that didn't do it, then I'd say, yes. Pick any one. Just make sure it has more memory. I've got a Radeon, but a friend has the other leading graphic card and has never mentioned a problem, so presumably you'll be golden if you get one that's powerful enough. And, of course, has the appropriate level of DirectX.
