Does anyone knoe if there's any better armour for mages or thieves in the game?

Imoen kicks ass with this but I was wondering if there's anything similar to give Aerie? My mages tend to get the shit kicked into them if any enemies drop behind my front line (Majorly Hard Paladin from BG1 ST19 DX17 CON17 WIs16 INT11 CHA19 + Minsc + Anomen).

Finally does anyone know where to get the best(non-debilitating) armour in the game?

Actually only a dualed or mutli class wizrd may use the chain or a bard.
And there's no better armor for wizard types in the game. Too bad you get it so close to the end.

Naahhh...
if you have a fighter mage, I always give my multi class to mage robes!

Sroneskin is the best armor in the game, and the only way to penetrate stoneskin is with elemnetal damage, spells or dispell magic. so, I figure when aerie is fighting hand to hand, she's better off with spell protection by far than armor. besides, your pc should have the same really great immunity to normal weapons with underhell anyway.

The spell Spirit Armor gives you AC 1 for an hour, so is pretty servicable in this respect.

In ToB an excellent piece of armour will be made available that does not hinder casting, it will cost you 40K but don't worry - you will have a good couple of hundred thousand gold bits quite early on...I have Imoen AC-9. ;)

Yes, it is the best ARMOR with AC1. There are also excellent spells & bacers, but they are not permanent.

BoDef AC3 & a RoProt +2 brings you to the same point.

That's the Armor of the Hart, Full Plate +3 (AC-2). It's on one of the 5 demon knights that appear when you sacrifice to Demogorgon in the underdark temple, near the Kuo-Toa Lair.

There are many great armours in the game, problem is only certain classes can use them. Its all up to what you like to look for. Blade singer chain is great for bards and fighter mages, but for thieves and stalkers, Shadow scale is best, for fighters, clerics and the like, its a tie between gorgan +4 and Hart.
Robe of Vecna owns mage robes though

Gorgon is better than hart, as it provides elemental protection.

Red ragon plate, is perhapse better than both, as it is lighter and has greater elemental prot.

I gave jaheira aergirs hide armor, and it lasts whole game, because of the nice immunity to confusion. and elemental prot. of course. Overall, I think armors that provide magical protectionof some type is better than high ac.

one also cannot discount full plate, un magical, and ring or amulet of prot. giving bonus to saves. those saves are very important.
