In Islam one has to shave certain sensitive areas due to hygiene and the like. It is supposedly mandatory. So as an good conservative muslim i do shave. However i do not feel safe running a blade across my manhood. So any men or women who use any cream to eliminate hair from the body please do list some advice and products i should consider using.

Secondly i have been hearing about these products that stop hair from growing at all. As in you place the cream, then wipe it off. After wards you spray on this liquid and it stops the hair from regrowing. Is this true or some bs?

Secondly if they can stop hair from growing why can't they make hair grow. I mean due to family and genetics i will be bald by 40. I don't want that. The idiots should work on getting rid of male baldness.

I would suggest using a good soap gel and applying it to the said area before shaving. Prior to shaving my lower legs I apply a shower gel made with fairly natural ingredients, essential oils etc. (check around in natural food stores etc.) This softens the skin and helps to ensure that the blade glides smoothly rather than cutting into skin... In your case.. something I imagine you'd rather avoid...

Well, I hate having to shave my face at all for fear of cuts and can't imagine...

I don't know, I put so little attention into such things, I can ask my friends that are the whole cosmotology school thing if they know of anything for you. You could always go pay to get a wax job.

Ha, I can only imagine the irritation involved though. My last ex couldn't shave, her skin was too sensative so she had to get that done regularly. 'Twas nice.

No, but getting one out of the three done wasn't too bad...umm crap. Memories.

@CM: Does it need to be close shaving or can you just trim it a bit? I use one of those electrical trimmers to just take away the worst. Totally painless and quite simple. If shaving is necessary then I think you have to suffer a period when the area will be very irritated. If you shave regularly the skin will adept, but berfore that happens it will be a pain.

Is complete hair removal required, or could you get away with cutting it really short? Shaving always results in uncomfortable stubble (uncomfortable to your partner if not to you--not that it affects unmarried Muslims, of course), and I don't know of any truly effective permanent hair removal techniques besides electrolysis, which is expensive. So trimming seems like a better answer to me.

Don't worry Fas, this is probably something all men have thought of, if not done. It's also a shared fear I hold of putting something sharp, and lethal down towards the fellas. Not that comforting

If my hands didn't shake as bad as they do constantly and I had a better attention span I might do so but I have a hard enough time not looking like I got hit by a lawnmower shaving my face.

Good question. I've been wondering the same thing lately, for other reasons though. I'm getting married in a few months and would like to be ummm..."properly groomed".

Aaah, I think I would rather go with something that doesn't sound like "Flobee"....

Ha, I was just trying to provide a little comedy along with the thought. Using an attachment to your vacuum cleaner would be very odd to be caught with doing that.

I am an extremly hairless Asian-born women, but the hubby is a hairy European, and he uses creams to remove hair. He says Veet or Opilca(sp?) is fine, but all hair removal creams may irritate the skin a bit after you have used them.

Cream is better than shaving, since shaving result in stubble that may be unfortable, depending on where exactly you plan to remove the hair. A friend of mine who removed the hair on the scrotum described the feeling as "I have a cactus between my legs".

This cannot be true. The only way to stop the hair from growing is to kill the roots of the hair, and this can only be done by electricity (hair by hair, very expensive and inconvienient I'd imagine) or by laser (more suitable for larger areas). The laser methods are based on killing the roots of the hair with a laser pulse. This must be done 3-4 times due to the cyclic nature of hair follicles. It's very expensive and not painless, but it's the most permanent method known hitherto. Here are some abstracts about this method:

Bad news Fas, androgen alopecia (the medical term for normal male balding in the middle ages) is caused by male sex hormones, androgens, so the only way to avoid it is to reduce the amount of androgens, which means castration or oestrogen treatment. Unfortunately, loosing the male sex hormones will not only mean reduction of hair loss but also reduction of some other typically male features.

There are some substances called finesterid and minoxidil which can reduce the hairloss somewhat, but the only way to really avoid it to start cultivating a pair of breasts instead. Who knows, it may suit you.

Fas, the blade is you friend in this regard. Shaving cream helps a lot. And patience.
