Concerning avatars

Hello i'm relatively new here and i was just wondering, where do you people get your avatars?
Everytime i try to load one of my own pictures it always says its too large (and these are some seriously small pictures) i've even tried modifying them to be even smaller but it still won't work.

This is probably a stupid question but i would really like to use one of my own avatars.

Could you perhaps attach one here, so we can see what's wrong?

There have been problems with avas, but they have been solved recently. I suspect the flaw is on your side. (that isn't supposed to sound so very un-nice.. :o :( )

Try downloading Irfanview it's a very tiny program that allows you to modify pictures.

You most likely just have a file that is too large and if you shrink it to the requirements that are mentioned where you upload your desired avatar it should fix the problem.

Chances are using the "resize/resample" option (ctrl+R) and shrinking the size to 75x75 pixels and saving it as a .gif file will fix your problem. :)

It's too wide and high still, you need to shrink it to 75x75 pixels.

Allright, almost there now.

-chosen another one

-set it to the right amount of pixels

-turned it into a jpg-file

But now it says that the file is too large (over 20000 bytes) and i already turned down the resolution below 72 (which i understand is about the minimum)
I've attached the file, so how do i solve this?

And thanks for all the help you already gave me

Try saving it as a .gif file instead. That may reduce the size of the file if you've shrunken the dimensions already. If you got Irfanview, you should just be able to open it up, click "save as" and under where you type the name of the file you want, you can scroll down and choose what type of file you want it saved as.

And your welcome. ;)

BTW, this seems to be more of a technical problem. *wink at random passing-by mod*

The problem lies in the fact that the picture has a file size of 51.69 KB right now. For some reason, I've only gotten it to load when my avatar meets both of the below requirements:
Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 75 by 75 pixels or 19.5 KB (whichever is smaller).
Saving it as a .gif should lower the file size, and, screw it...

Try this attached one. Same measurements, only difference is I saved it as a .gif instead of a .JPEG. Now it's only 6.3 kb. :)

It worked, thanks you guys
Especially Magrus for turning it into a GIF-file (because my computer is unable to)

Your welcome. I was wondering why it wouldn't work for you. It took all of 20 seconds for me to do. :D

It seems the query has been solved, so I'm closing this thread before it turns into pure chit-chat. That belongs in SYM :)
