Missed Bit on the GB Walkthrough

Hi Everyone,

This is the first time I've posted on a GB forum so I hope I do this right.

I have played through Vampire Bloodlines (and enjoyed it very much, thank you) and then came to Game Banshee to have a read through bits of the walkthrough (I like to see what I did wrong). Anyway, I *think* I have found a bit where you can get some extra experience (a WHOLE 1 point, so don't hold your breath) which actually isn't mentioned in the walkthrough. I sort of don't quite believe it since I've never found anything that someone else hasn't spotted before. But you never know. I pressed the link to send an email to describe what I'd found (Vampire walkthrough submissions), sent off the email ... and .... it promptly got bounced back to me as undeliverable. I think the address is out of date?? Can anyone here advise me who to send an email to?

Thanks and best wishes
Maxon

Private message alert

you could PM one of the moderators - and if it is that exciting, copy me in!

BTW - I found an undocumented point - when you first leave your haven, giving the bum a $1 gets you a humanity boost - but only sometimes! I wonder if it is clan-specific (to Toreador?).

Thanks both for responding - I will send it on.

I knew about the humanity boost from the bum but also found out last night that I got two lots of stats boosts from Nines. I couldn't see this in the walkthrough either but haven't looked very hard yet. I thought it might be a bug but the second time was a different dialogue than the first time. I still haven't been to find Dr Grout and had nipped back to the Last Round to update them on the pestilence quest and that idiotic Toreador ghoul. Nines was still there so I had another word with him and got the second stat boost. He said come back in a couple of nights and talk some more when he's got time - so maybe I'm going to see to Brother Kanker and that ruddy Bishop fella before I do more running around for LaCroix and go back and have another little word with Nines before I set off for Dr Grout. Does that make sense? - probably not.

I'll post the report I send about the extra experience point I got from Beckett when I write it up. As you may have guessed, I'm on my second run through.

Best wishes

OK - this is the submission I made to the Bloodlines walkthrough about an (as far as I could see) undocumented extra experience point to be got from Beckett. My character was a female Tremere with high persuade - and I mean high enough to get all the information from the people at the Giovanni mansion about their murky pasts - isn't that 9? I always prefer talking myself out of a situation rather than fighting so I was bound to go down this kind of route if it was available. Also, it doesn't work with the pink seduction option - I had another go after bumping up her seduction level with the console. Beckett wasn't impressed with that (git). Didn't try intimidation - not my style. Anyway, a copy of the email I sent follows.

Hi I had a look at your walkthrough for the Bloodlines game and as far as I
could see you didn't cover a small part where you can gain an extra
experience point. It's at the end of the Epic of the Ankaran Sarcophagus
quest where you return to Venture Tower and speak to LaCroix and then
Beckett. In the walkthrough as it stands, the part I am referring to says:

If your character is a Gangrel... speak to Beckett, who is now examing the
sarcophagus. You will be given the opportunity to ask him more about
himself, but he will claim that you know more about him than he does about
you. Counter with the fact that you're a Gangrel just like he is and he'll
ask inquire about your disciplines. If your Animalism is low, tell him
you're having trouble with it, and he'll teach you a rank for free.

The character I was playing was a (female) Tremere with a high Persuade and
I got an option for this conversation too but (as the character wasn't
gangrel) with a different outcome. Here's how that scene went:

Speak to LaCroix - 2 pts of experience for completing sarcophagus quest, go
over to sarcophagus with him, LaCroix has his hissy fit about it not opening
and demands you and Beckett find a way to open it and then stomps off.

After this Beckett engages you in conversation and talks about Sarcophagus
and his non-belief in Gehenna. You question him about opening it and get
the Professor-recovery and Society of Leopold quest.

Then you can say, "I have a few questions before I go".

"Excellent", says Beckett and you get the option to ask him to "Tell me
about yourself."

He says, "Hmm ... I've said quite a lot about myself already. I know even
less about you than you do me. Why don't you tell me about yourself?"

I then got a blue 'persuade' dialogue option which read, "I appreciate your
interest in me. I'm fascinated by you."

And he responds, "Then I'll let you into a little secret ... Beckett may not
be the name I was born with. Events always seem to unfold wherever I go,
like Chicago a few years ago - Oh, it's a bother to explain. Either, I'm
pursuing fate or it's got a bone to pick with me."

And then I got 1 Experience - but no log update.

Now, I have no idea what he is on about but then I only bought this game
casually because it looked as though it might be interesting. I didn't even
realise it was an adult-rated game till I got it home, loaded it up and Jack
started swearing at me. I usually like simulation games but I also enjoy
story-telling - so I thought this might be amusing (which it was). I've no
real interest in stories about Vampires and all that stuff I've glimpsed on
the net that people seem to get so excited about. I am, therefore,
ignorant. I'm guessing he's either referring to something from the earlier
version of the game (Redemption, was it?) or some kind of community myth.
Anyway, I thought I'd pass it on. What I was really looking for, at the
time, was an option to give him a good slapping to wipe that silly smirk off
his face. Still, you can't have everything. I've enjoyed the game though
and thanks for your efforts writing the walkthrough.

Best wishes

Your persuade doens't need to be 9 to unlock that dialogue. 6 or 7 should suffice, I believe. You can also get a point of humanity during that conversation, but only if yours is already low. He'll mention something about the beast and you say "But it's so easy to give in.." or some such, and then he urges you to do your best to forget that you are, in fact, a walking corpse.
