Pesky Pillars in Ancients Trial

OK, Let me list the things I've done and the things I've tried first. I've created both a Human Male Fighter/Marauder and Human Female Fighter/Valkyrie. Both are stuck at exactly the same place in the Pillars Room. Here's the setup:
Have killed the Elder. Have successfully navigated the first 2 landings (South and West) and have activated both pressure plates. I'm on the middle pillar in the room facing north. I've got 2 pillars between me and the North landing (and freedom from this cursed room ). The pillar directly north of me is twice as high as previous pillars I had to jump to. I walk to the very edge of the pillar I'm on and when I jump (using spacebar and forward arrow) I "almost" reach the top to pull myself up, but land a bit short every time. I've tried with and without armor/weapons on. I have no penalties and have 5 in athletics. My stats are in the 30/40's range I'm level 11 with the male and 8 or 9 with the female. I've tried jumping from a diagonal pillar, but that's even worse (which only makes sense since the distance is longer). I don't know what else to try, and having read and posted on other threads, don't see anyone else with the same problem so was wondering if perhaps I'm doing some simple thing wrong. Any suggestions/tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
