Really annoying VtMB sound issues

Okay, I've wanted this game since it came out, but I never had a computer with anywhere near the requirements. But just recently I invested in an alienware laptop, and to my dismay, Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines is malfunctioning on it. Random times, when i click on the shortcut and the game loads, the sound suddenly stops working on my computer (it would work before running the game, and needs the computer restarting to work again).

I have played through a bit with the sound, um, screwed up, because I got tired of restarting, as I don't think I should have to put up with this on this computer. The interesting thing I've noticed, is not only does the sound not work, but when npc's are supposed to be talking, their mouths don't move... it's really weird.

Anyway, I've tried a few things, and the error seems to possibly be with directsound... It's like the game is somehow disabling it or causing it to crash. I don't know.

Does anybody have any ideas to solve this problem and/or has been experiencing a similar problem? This doesn't happen all the time, but when it does it's really obnoxious (I hate having to restart). Thanks for any help you can give! :D

Sound

Try doing a soud driver update for both computers. Look at what updates are available and install those that may help. Like LAN driver, chipset driver. Directx driver update and video update.

If you update directx you must update video even when your trying to solve a sound issue.
