To all who used pause technique for romances

People, can you explain me why one must pause a game for a while to get needed dialogue, not just leave it fro a while whithout pausing?

The reason I pause it is to avoid listening to the character's complain while I go about my business. Also, if you're in a dungeon someplace, occasionally monsters will randomly come up to you, and if you're not right there tending the game, your party could be killed while you're elsewhere.

You don't -have- to pause. Some people just do that because they don't want to waste game time.
