I haven't tried this cheat yet. Can someone tell me what the effects are? Will the character be able to avoid things that would bring about final death? (being burned from walking through fire, etc...)

In all other respects, you walk like a duck, talk like a duck, etc. There are, however, advantages. You can fight werewolves hand-to-hand for an hour or two if you feel so inclined. You can't kill it, but it can't kill you, either. You can spit into the teeth of a flamethrower until it runs out of fuel and you stop burning, chew on the muzzle of a Spaz automatic shotgun, stick your finger in the muzzle of a machine gun, and so forth. God mode doesn't stop you from getting hit, being set on fire, or anything like that. What it does do is prevent you from taking any damage from any such injury you might sustain. It essentially makes you invulnerable to harm. You will see yourself as being on fire when you're doing an Irish jig in a burning house. The fire just doesn't hurt you.

Does it stop something that causes an automatic final death, like an elevator being dropped on you?

Let me guess. Ocean House, right? That, I'm not sure. I've never been hit by that elevator. The ghost did tell you to be careful, after all. I'm usually halfway up the ladder by the time the elevator goes by.

Thanks. I plan to try it out in the Warrens. From what I've read, there's a notoriously difficult spot involving a catwalk, some water, and a bit of electricity. ;)

Hideously simple in my experience, but your mileage may vary.

I've only been hit once, but I was wondering if you'd end up inside the elevator or something. Maybe I'll try on my next go-through.

My gut feeling on the elevator is that one of two things will happen. Either it's going to croak you god-mode or not, or it'll land on your head, not kill you, but you'll be trapped for the rest of eternity with an elevator for a hat.

Well, if you get the elevator-hat, you can just cheat some more and 'clip out' :D

SPOILER

Regarding the deathtraps and godmode, I've succesfully managed to go through the nasty traps at Kuei-Jin's, those in the corridors leading to the jade figures which instantly kill you otherwise. Was a bit funny trying to wiggle out with a big blade stuck through the PC's belly... ;)

I actually tried this just for a giggle. You get the Eternal Elevator Hat scenario.
