Disc 2 issue?

Hey,

I really hope someone can help me. Having heard many good things about Planescape, I bought a copy second-hand from ebay. It seemed to install fine on my PC (which has Windows XP); I downloaded the patches to get me up to 1.1 (official) and the unofficial fan patch too.

Then I can get to the character generation screen, where you indicate how many points you want to spend in the various attributes; but as soon as I press 'proceed', it tells me to insert disc 2. But disc 2 is already in the drive. I can't get any further than this point.

I've tried a fake full install, copying all the information onto my hard drive, but the problem still occurs. Does this mean that my disk 2 is faulty? Or is it a compatability issue? Has anyone any advice about what I should do, or where I could go to get a replacement disk?

Thank you in advance.

Byron.

I am having the exact same problem, and just about to search the forums...

Let's see... I tried doing a full install just like you, tried running in compatability mode... still no good. The 'Please Insert CD2' screen comes up once I create my character, but then it does not load.

Working

Got it working. If you have the 2 cd version, do not install the official patch. Just reinstall the game and hopefully you will get it working again.

Glad it worked for you, but...

Sadly I have the four CD version. I'll try to load it again tomorrow without the patch and see if that works, but I think I tried that already...we shall see. :-/

No joy with the reinstall

No, it didn't work even without the patch. Any other suggestions?

there seems to be a crack that might deal with the problem <removed>. it is only for US version 1.1 full install though...

No-cd cracks can be used as a means of circumventing game protections and we discourage discussion regarding them.

No Joy

Tried the crack - thanks for looking for it for me, by the way - but although now I can start the game without needing CD2 (I just have my drive empty), whereas previously it prompted me for CD2 at startup, I still can't get past the character creation screen - it still prompts me for CD2.

Any further ideas? I really wanted to play this game. /-:

A simple way to verify your discs is to burn them. You might want to do this anyway since the game runs fine on burned CDs-including the install (DVD's should work too but I never tried it, but since the file system is a little different due to increased capacity maybe not)

Also-this is probably a dumb thing to ask but did you keep the CD in the tray this last time you tried? In your last post it sounded like you didn't.

If neither of these things help you might try sending a PM to Platter-you might also want to get his fixes here.

If it turns out that you need a replacement disc you shouldn't have any trouble getting one from another member-after all you're asking for a replacement and not a pirated copy, and with Interplay gone your options are pretty limited.

BTW-you heard right-it's a really good game.

Watch this space

I did keep the CD in the drive, but thank you for asking me the obvious - I'm stupid enough that I might well have missed something obvious.

Burning the CDs results in the same problem; I've emailed Platter to see if he can help at all.

Thanks for all your suggestions, everybody. Maybe I'll see if I can download it somewhere instead - given that I've bought a copy, that's not copyright theft, right? /-:

Best,

Byron.

Success!

The downloaded copy of CD 2 that I found works fine, so I guess it must have been an issue with the CD that I had.
