Any way to restore Gorch?

Post by NamenLos »

Hi,

In the last part of the MaeVar quest, Bloodscalp asks you to get rid of MaeVar himself. To bring the quest to a close I accepted the job and off I went to chop him up.

Unfortunately as soon as I enetered MaeVar's guildhall, everyone has become hostile, including good old Gorch.

After this point I can never enter his store screen again, which for me is a problem as I have left quite a few important items and artifacts on him. Unless I can get back to his store, it seems I'll never see them again.

Are there any console commands I can use to restore him to his friendly self?

Cheers.

I haven't done any direct research on this so take what I say with a grain of salt. But I think that the problem is bigger than can be easily handled with CLUA. When Mae'var's people go hostile it is the result of their scritpts reacting to global variables related to the quest. Resetting these to the state they were in prior to getting the order from Renal may help, but would also screw up the quest.

You might try creating a copy of Gorch outside of the area, on the off chance that the script is attached to the location rather than the creature. I suspect this won't work, but it might be worht a try.

Your best bet would be to revert to a prior save and buy/steal your items back before you talk to Renal.

It's not eay to "revive" Gorch once he turns hostile. I've tried it, with mixed results.

First of all, after completing Renal's quest, I used Shadowkeeper to look up all of the global variables associated with the quest and deleted them. I found them by comparing the most recent saved game with a previous saved game. I killed Gorch (with the intention of creating a new Gorch), so I also removed the SPRITE_IS_DEAD_Gorch variable (or something like that). There's also a variable called GorchIsOpen.

After doing all of that, I could create Gorch with the CLUAConsole code, and he wasn't hostile. The problem is, he keeps disappearing, so I have to create him every time I want to do business with him. If there's a better solution, I'd like to hear it.

Well, that would be perfect for the aforementioned problem. If you read the post, the only problem is that the artifacts are left on him, so once he buys them back, he has no need for good 'ol Gorch.

If you are looking to do the sell and steal trick, there are numerous other merchants who will permit it.

But if you just want some items back wouldn't be easier to clua them (or use SK) to get them back?

I was going to suggest that, but it sounds like there are a lot of items. Some people have qualms about cheating items in, which is different from restoring a hostile merchant that you didn't expect to go hostile. (One would expect Gorch to be loyal to the greater guild rather than simply a partisan of Mae'var's faction. Even setting that question aside, it is pretty rare for a merchant to go hostile when you haven't attacked or stolen from him.)

If there are no such qualms, it would probably be easier to just get ShadowKeeper and put them directly into the inventory. Shadowkeeper is a generally useful tool for fixing bugs and is much easier to use than CLUA.
