When my wizard found a Leech dagger, I thought "Hey this is a nice weapon, relieves me of my ring slot" because before I had a ring of regeneration.
So I put the dagger as my secondary weapon, and nothing happens!
So, having never used the effect before, what is vampiric regeneration?

Vampiric Regeneration heals your wounds by sucking the life-force of your enemy, (like a vampire; get it?), so it will only have an effect if you are in combat. My advice is to keep the ring because you will generally suffer more damage in combat than you will be healed, whereas the ring will heal you outside of combat up to your full amount of hitpoints.

Incidentally, Vampiric Regeneration is different from the 3rd level wizard spell Vampiric Touch which will actually give you temporary bonus hitpoint above your max. VR only works if you are wounded.

I would be careful with vampric potions you can loot from the tansilist beats found in the caves of hastenir valley they have a very lurkiest potionn which decreases your characters xp by 200
