Stuck at the end of Level 3 without the Scepter of Radiance, have the journal and 2 gems but don't know how or if I can get back to where I found the journal, can't remember where I saw that little mad elf at the beggening of the maze. Am I screwed? Please Help.

The mad elf at the beginning enters the South portal.. just find you way to the beginning, shouldnt be that hard.
