fun class combos..

Right now I have a thief (initial creation class) and Marauder (joined fighter guild) class combo. I keep reading people saying that thief skills are useless. Why is that? I think being able to open chests relatively well is a pretty good upside.

I think I'm going to start over after I install patch 1.3.

What mixture of classes have you found to be fun?

Paladin/Adept/Marauder and working on deathlord...

Seems to be extremely balanced... I also jacked up my thievery skills from the get go and it is NOT a worthless stat :-)

My first character had classes in this order.

Mage
Fighter
Enchantress
Shugenja
War Witch

And though the rune magic never worked with me (I had to format my CPU as I just got done with Naga), it was rather fun to play out that way. My highest level in the game was I think 13-14.

The thief, I have never tried. I don't know hardly anything about how it works in THIS game, but wil try it myself soon.

Don't ask how I am a fighter and adept.. I didn't think it was possible but it apparently is.

Disarm Traps & Inspect: Only useful skills that you can upgrade without joining thief class. You need max lvl 8 in this skill to open hardest chests in game.

Pick Locks: Not useful because in the game there isn't any locks to open. (to be true there are several, but you can get keys for them)

Sneak: Havent notised a diference with and without it, but from desription sonds that this skill may be useful only for sumoners (mage that uses summoning spells) and multiplayer games.

Backstab: Sorry but havent tryed.

So as You can see there is not much usefulness in thief skills. And to have in mind that you are giving up other class for that.

Hope it helps ;)

thanks for the replies.... It brings up another question though..

If you can only join one guild, how do you get so many classes?

I have the option of doing the Bukoda class at the house of the tiger since I started as a Thief and of course I have Marauder from joining the fighter guild.

So how are people getting such a vast range of classes?

You can get two first level classes from two guilds.

Ok correct me if I'm wrong...

I can start the game as an adept then join the fighter guild...

so I'm an adept/fighter, then I could do the monk/marauder quests so I would basically be an adept/fighter-monk/marauder and have the option of ONE tier 3 class?

I'm looking for a combo to give me critical strike/dual weapons... let me know if Im correct in my assumption...thanks in advance

Jack-of-all-Trades

German version 1.2 (will be upped to 1.3 in near future)

Restrictions:
Some feats don't work as intended (or at all) e.g, crit strike!?

Build:

Race: Human, female

Rogue (learning bonus: Pick, Disarm and Inspect)
Adept (learning bonus: Light, Med. Armor, Celestial Magic)

Monk (learning bonus: Archery, Athletics, Celest. Magic, Rune Magic, Light Pole Weapon
Valkyrie (learning bonus: All Armor, All Weapons, Rune Magic

Shaolei Master (learning bonus: Archery, Athletics, Celest. Magic, Rune Magic, Channel, Ninjutsu, All Pole Weapons

(Last Class not yet acquired)

The Goal was to have a high-end Melee Class with decent Magic (for ranged combat and buff/protection), that can perform basic thief stuff

The classes were chosen to achieve the goal and take advantage of the learning boni to gain access to the next tier easier.

The final build will be able to dish out ranged damage (via spells), is totally lethal in melee (with superior range due to Heavy Pole Weapons and Critical Strike), can protect/buff herself (high lvl spells contain immunity to physical or magic damage), can heal/cure conditions and can perform all this plus thievery Skills in Heavy Armor.

Attributes are pushed as needed (Int always first, to lower costs for skills).
After covering the prerequisites - I had them covered before dropping the first relic (horn); the relics give boni to stats, so you can count these in, if you want to fight less) - I go for strength to be able to wear the Heavy Armor and Heavy Pole Weapons and do additional damage (Str. > 25).
When Crit. Strike works as intended, I would increase chances for crit hits by maxing out Dex (chance to hit) and maybe Agility (attack speed).

Just my 2cents, feel free to comment

I would forget the learning bonusses for disarm and inspect since you only need to boost them to about 7 (or 8). You are better off getting an extra learning bonus for a skill you are going to increase a lot. There is a list of articles by Briar (I believe) that explains learning bonusses. It will show how powerfull an extra learning bonus is at high skill level.

I have 4 learning bonusses for arcane magic. The skill upgrade cost from 28 to 29 is around 500k!

I am a marauder/enchantress and I thought that the combination of a war witch and a deathlord should be quite fearsome but to my understanding is it impossible to achive two third class levels is that right?

That is correct. You can have only one 3rd tier class.
