Finding NWN patches

Hi everyone,

I need to get hold of NWN patches from v1.62 upwards. I play NWN on a computer without Internet access and used to transfer patches over by disk. Now Bioware do not store all of the individual patches as they used to, only storing a critical rebuild for the current patch. I cannot use the update facility as the computer needs to be connected to the Internet :( .

So my question is,
Does anyone know where I can get hold of the patches (or critical rebuilds) of the patches mentioned above?

Thanks in advance :) .

I know it's a tough question, but does anyone have any ideas?

Get somebody you know with a fast(er) internet connection to download the critical rebuild patch.

I can download the rebuild fine, but Bioware only stock the newest one. As I don't have the patch preceeding this, it refuses to work. That's why I need the older crit. rebuilds.
Thanks anyway, Xandax

If you download the critical patch (some 85MB) - are you sure you need the preceeding patch version?

It is my understanding that this patch containes all patch fixes and critical files and not just update from 1.65-1.66.
And while we are on it - the patches are said to contain all fixes from previous patches, so I don't know why it wont let you update.

Perhaps try and contact bioware support, perhaps they can supply you with the needed files.

I'll try to download the latest one. Thanks Xandax.

I think it is supposed to fix the update facility as well as patch the game, but I only neeed the actual patch.

Patch download problems

I downloaded the patch onto the desktop (of someone else's computer) and then copied it onto my USB Flash Drive (Corsair Flash Voyager – 512MB) and then started the installer from it on my computer and received the following error message after it managed to get to around 80% of installer verification:
NSIS Error

The installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete.
This could be the result of a damaged disk, a failed download or a virus.

You may want to contact the author of this installer to obtain a new copy.

It may be possible to skip this check using the /NCRC command line switch (NOT RECOMMENDED)

I received the same error straightaway when I tried to run the program again from my desktop instead of the Flash drive.

I suppose I will have to wait another week to download it again. :( I'm not sure if the problem is with the download or the error was prompted by the NWN version.

Does anyone know anything about this '/NCRC command line switch'? I probably won't try it, but I'm curious anyway. :p

Ditto

I am having the same problem. I know it can be done, my boyfreind did it several weeks ago. Since he is gone for the next two years, and I have a new cp, I can't figure it out. Help!

Only difference is I do have internet link.

the error is just because of corrupt header of exe file. there is nothing wrong with the entire build file. try using the switch /nocrcthough it is unrecommended. the patch is ok. i used it to patch my game version 1.59. it usually occurs when you transfer exe files from one computer to another. also when one file is infected with a virus and then repaired by an antivirus.

dont forget to check for viruses.

I was thinking of doing that, but don't know how. Do you need to open the patch program in the command prompt, then type /NCRC followed by the patch filename?

What if the patch is corrupt, you could still update/revert from there, couldn't you?

@LB, can't you just start the game, and click the Update button? Do you get the error I described every time? Is that under Windows XP like mine?

UPDATE - Yay! I managed to get it working after experimenting with the \NCRC switch. Thanks Xandax and crazy.

LB, If you can't get the Update on the game launcher working, try this...

1- Open the folder where the downloaded patch is.
2- Open the 'Command Prompt' from Accessories under the Start Menu.
3- Drag the patch program into the Command Prompt window.
4- Leave one space, then type \NCRC and press Enter (try the / key if this does not work)
5- The patch should now install itself.

Hope this will help you.
