Robot with some human components, but not enough to be a cyborg.

He's a human who is physically in such bad shape, everything but his vital organs, eyes, brain, and parts of his face are cyborg prosthetics. He's like an extreme version of Darth Vader.

If you're not convinced, then consider the fact that he obviously has training in the Jedi ways, which in itself should distinguish him from any android. (Can androids use the force? With no blood and therefore no mitichlorines in their blood? Not that I would be surprised if Lucas decided it would be cool if they could.)

From what I know robots don't go around coughing nor are they at all intelligent on that show. So I figured that part of Greivious was organic.

If I remember correctly, he was once human, but I think something happened (I'm not really sure), and he was kind of remade or somethingg with robot parts. I'm not really sure, though.

I was wrong about one thing--he's not human; he's a member of the Kaleesh species, who are reptilian humanoids.

Here's a link to the internet encyclopedia, Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Grievous

"Though a member of the Kaleesh species, his physical body is a fusion of a powerful robotic structure and an organic brain, nervous system and sensory organs... Dark Horse began publishing a 4-part comic about General Grievous in March 2005...

"General Grievous was originally a warlord on his native Kalee...

"Grievous was mortally wounded in [a space shuttle] crash, and his shattered, dying body was taken to the planet Geonosis, where his brain, eyes, and other organs were implanted into a droid body forged by Geonosians that would complement his natural reflexes.

"The suit, built of Durasteel and armorplast-plated Duranium, is built to resemble Krath war droids. His armorplast plates are strong enough to stop a bolt from even a starfighter's laser cannon. Each human-sized hand has 6 fingers (3 to each half-arm when they split to produce 4 arms). His hands and feet are capable of magnetizing when needed, allowing him to grip on to surfaces even in zero-G with incredible strength. His internal organs are enclosed in a layer of pressurized synthflesh which allows him to survive in naked vaccuum..."

There's more, but that should answer your initial question.

@VonDondu; I don't recall ever seeing Grievous using the Force, in ep. III or the Clone Wars series. He may be keen with the lightsaber, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he is Force-sensitive. Could you please specify your theory on this? Thanks.

He can't use the force, Dooku trained hi to use the lightsabers and the lightsabers only.

Yeah, if I remember correctly, he's not a dark jedi or anyhing, but he still got trained to use lightsabers, and the ones he has he got from the jedi he killed.

In the movie, he told Obi-Wan that he had Jedi training right before he pulled out (EDIT) four lightsabers. I thought using a lightsaber required at least a little sensitivity to the Force (you need really sharp senses to compete with a well-trained opponent), but I was wrong. Wikipedia says that Grievous cannot use the Force. I guess he has robot eyes in the back of his head and in the ends of his fingertips. :)

Does anyone think that General Grievous bears some resemblance to General Roth'h'ar Sarris in Galaxy Quest? According to Wikipedia, no one really knows what the Kaleesh look like, so I'm trying to imagine a reptilian humanoid with remarkable prowess in combat--one who doesn't resemble and move as slowly as a Gorn.

Psst, Grevious only has 4 lightsabers. I've never played Galexy Quest.

I just corrected that. Wikipedia says he can use six: "The general displayed amazing dexterity and was capable of fighting with six lightsabers simultaneously by dividing his mechanical arms into four and holding a lightsaber in each prehensile foot while using the repulsorlifts in his legs to float." That must have been in the comic books. Sometimes my imagination embellishes what I see in movies once I get ideas in my head. :)

I know he can use 6, but he only has 4 that I know of.

Galaxy Quest is a movie made in 1999 that spoofs the Star Trek franchise. It isn't just a dumb parody; it's actually a very funny, very touching, and very well-made movie. If you haven't seen it, you're in for a real treat.

Oh wait I remember now, with Tim allen? I think I remember, is the General you talked about that one tall tall one with that thing over his eye and he grabs Tim Allens face? If so, I think he kinda looks like Grevious, I've been wondering what Grevious looks like with out the armour.
