I'm just starting ToB. Who would be a better tank? The only thing i use valygar for is tank, nothing else and he kinda sucks at it. i always have to move him aside or waste all my healing potions on him. would sarevok be a better tank?

sarevok and korgan are the best fighters in the game...mainly because they are pure fighters.
sarevok is awesome. just wait till he uses deathbringer assault on something.

I agree, pure fighters rule, so take Sarevok. I don't think that Sarevok rivals Korgan (if Korgan is using a *certain* hammer and is upgraded to grand mastery in war hammers) but he's great. BTW, Mazzy's worth a try too, since there a lots of strenght increasing items in TOB and a very nice short sword as well.

Sarevok despite being bald, is also not a blithering idiot like Minsc. And plus how can you not adore the flaming eyes and evil voice ? Perfect for my evil party.

I'd go with sarevok, valygar isn't made for tanking

Sarevok is a far better tank than just about any other NPC in the game with the possible exception of Korgan.
Valygar on the other hand isn't really a tank at all, he's a stalker. I personnally use hime in much the same way as I use a thief in combat, sneak him up behind enemies and backstab. Now he isn't as good at back stabbing as a theif but the advantage with him is that after making the strike he can take a couple of hits without having to run away.

hmmm, i had the same dispute:
valygar or sarevok?
i eventually chose sarevok, since valygar has got to be the dullest SOA or TOB npc in world, i thought sarevok would make things a bit intresting
Although Sarevok can't do manythings that valygar can, he's a better pure brute.

Best armors in the game are the Dragon Scales, which Valygar can use. He has good Dex and fights well with two weapons. Strength 17 or 18/77 is pretty irrelevant with all the Strength enhancing items around. On top of that, he has some extras like Stealth and funny spells.
The one thing that bothers me about Sarevok is his uber-specialization in Two-Handed Weapons. Those suck compared to dual wielding, and perhaps even compared to Weapon & Shield. I mean, would you rather use one +5 item, or two?

yeah, but two handed weapons do more damage and usually do cooler things to compensate for the lack of an extra weapon or shield. but the best part of sarevok is the deathbringer assault...unbelievable!

1d8 or 1d10 is only
one point apart on average. Since you're hitting for 20+ with Strength and magic damage modifiers anyway, I'd say it's
very inconsequential.
As for the cooler abilities... Carsomyr is nice, but none of the other two-handers compare to, for example, the Axe of the Unyielding. Just pick any nice dual wield combo, add all the abilities together, and try to find a two-hander that gives you something comparable.

While Korgan needs the axe to instant kill Sarevok can do it with any weapon. I like Sarevok more.
