Hi everybody,

I just started playing divine divinity, and entered in the third level of the catacombs (quest to heal the mage's madness of the first village), but in there i face to a very big big problem.

In the very south part of this level, there's a ghoul, and each time i kill it, a deadly red thing appears near the corpse, crawls after me, and when it's enough close to me, blows me up to death.
I can't escape, because it's faster than I, and i can't kill it, because it can't be targeted.

Have you encountered this red deadly thing? What am i supposed to do, except avoiding the ghoul?

Thank you for spending time on my problem

PS : excuse me if my english is not very good, but it's not my native language.

Is this the large level where there are four holes, each of which has a different monster in it? The holes to the NW, NE, SW and SE? Because if so, you don't have to kill any of those creatures at the bottom of the holes. There's very nice loot in those areas, but it's difficult for younger characters to successfully kill them all. I suggest saving before trying any of them, and returning a few levels later in the game if you find it impossible to kill one, now.

Note that until you get an attack and defense of 51%, I would raise no attribute except strength as you gain levels. After that, it's up to you.

I speak about this level
http://www.gamebanshee.com/divinedivini ... combs3.php
where you have to open four tombs.
The red thing appears in the SE part.

---------------
After 5 reloads, i faced the ghoul one more time, and the first time i hurt it, the red thing appeared. It blew me up, but let me 10hp, so i healed and killed the ghoul.
It's seems to be a kind of moving trap... or a ghoul trick...
Sorry for borring you with this false problem, but after 5 reloads, i was ... lost ^^
thank you for your time

Oh--*that* level. :D I'd open a coffin and run like hell. I used hit-and-run tactics throughout, grabbing the attention of a few monsters, drawing them off, then killing them with arrows (if lucky) and melee weapons (if not). Finally, when I got all the attendant monsters out, I would go for the leader. You should have enough potions and enough strength to take each one out; even the fastest shouldn't be able to match you, provided you aren't overburdened. Try to get in a few good hits at a distance, if possible, first. Take it down a bit, before you move in for the kill.

I think you're describing one of the traps in the game. I'm not sure what the name of it is but there is a small creature that bounds after you and explodes (may be a scorpion trap). The red light illuminates it as a trap ( I think) even if you cannot actually see it. You can sometimes run away from these or confuse them, so they won't explode near you. :)

You mean a trail bomb? That's possible, but it shouldn't even remotely approach enough power to kill him unless he just sits there at one-quarter strength and allows the thing to go off under his feet.

It would probably explain the moving red light, though. :)

I encoutered plenty of these things in the 4th level of the catacombs, and yes, that's a trap.
A little red creature waits in a hole (look like an egg), and if you pass enough close to it, it jumps over you, and you have to run^^
It tries to go under your feet, and if it succeeds, it does critical hit, let you with few or no hp.

But, strangely, the thing in the level 3 is more powerful and faster than in level 4, because i had no problem to avoid the things in level 4.

So thank you again, i'm a rogue, so is it necessary to concentrate on strength?

Any profession should concentrate first on strength, because it determines the percentage chance of getting in a successful hit, and also of evading a hit from something else.

It also helps with the amount of loot in the game and where there is no immediately available merchants.

As for those traps, sometimes you can outrun them and other times they have varying damage.

I too met these gracious red-creature-moving-trap....
If it runs faster than you.. you are in very **** story!!
I think you should increase your trap escaping skill and so could avoid it.
If you don't success you must get away from these area and try when you got sufficient health point.
Bye!!
