There has been quite a lot of confusion lately, with people being cautious to post links which answer a question (mostly in SYM) becuase they are scared it is "advetising." Perhaps it needs to be cleared up that it is posting of ones OWN (or an affiliated) website that is not wanted (except in signatures,) As opposed to an external site which is helpful. Comments?

#4 - Advertisements for your website or another forum should not be posted, except in your signature. The only other exception to this rule is if the link is to a page that answers the original poster's question.
"your website or another forum"

exception

"a page that answers the original poster's question."

Actually the rules cover excatly what you wish, the "problem" is that we moderate it a little more "fiercely" then this, because somebody logging in for one time, posting advertisments for comercial products will be treated as the mentioned "your website" eventhough it perhaps isn't "your website".
Also posting links where you get referal ids will be treated as advertisments and so on.

I don't see why "you'd" be affraid to post links either. It is very rare somebody has been banned over such an issue as this, other then blatant advertisment for something which likely is illegal.

So when posting, if you ask yourself if this link is advertising something, then chances are that you proberly are. If the links is informative and/or answering somebodys question, then you'll likely be allright.
And even if the moderators step in, don't worry about a thing unless you have a history of violations and warnings - then it will not go on your permanent record :D
