Bug help please

I have dispatched the vampire and obtained the artifact for the elves. I went and spoke to the elf and received the xp for completing the quest and was ported to the forest entrance to the city. All my characters leveled up, so I proceeded to pick abilities for all (something I just figured out). Problem, I forgot one. So ofcourse I reload an older save and return to the elf to hand the artifact back to him, this is where my problem is,

" cannot initiate dialogue with so and so, he appers busy "

I've tried going back to different saves and found some npc's I can talk to, but not the elf, so i'm stuck.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Install the latest patch. This is a regular problem that occurs without it.

I should say however, i've only had the game for about 1 month, I patched it right away. That said, I installed ToB yesterday for the first time and encountered this bug for the first time same day. I just find it odd that the game was running fine, I reload from the same spot I had started in after installing ToB and then encounter the problem. Hopefully repatching will solve the issue. Thank you.

It's the ToB patch you need.
