I thought BG2 was a old game being around so long it it is almost off the shelves..I got my BG2 2 years ago don't have TOb have to get ToB in THE COLLECTION few days ago though...can't find the expension pack any more........know BG2 from a friend.....if BG3 comes out I will surely get it.....was always wondering when it will be coming out

Well BG2 is a few years old now. However, many of us consider it one of the last truly great RPGs. It's storyline, scope, and character development is truly wonderful and still manages to engage several years after its release.

As for BG3, while Atari has said that a BG3 might be on the horizon somewhere in the future, it's not been officially announced. And, quite frankly, we'd all be surprised if it were officially announced anytime soon. With any luck, it will be one day be developed. But it will probably be some time, still.

I'd love to see Fallout 3 and Baldur's Gate 3 come out, but chances are they'll only be shadows of their fore fathers because it'd have to be a company other than Black Isle taking it over.

Still I'd buy either of them because the prequals are that good.

A lot depends on how you play. I don't have too much time for gaming so having found a game that is really a work of art and still a challenge after 2 years or more (and I haven't even tried soloing yet) I see no reason to drop it.

Excatly - I have actually just reinstalled BG2 to have something to pass time with. Can't really find anything worthwhile to play currently.
No other of the later "RPGs" I've played come close to BG2 in scope and gameplay. They are all "RPG-Lites" dumped down to reach a broader marketsegment.

The reason I keep playing it is because you can choose between... well, at least over a thousand different characters to play. Compared to other games, where you can play 1 or 4 different characters, this is awesome. I always have new ideas for characters and want to try them out.

Another reason for me is the true feeling of becoming stronger. In the beginning (let's say you're a mage) you can cast one magic missile each day, not strong enough to kill anything, and you'll get you ass whopped by gibberlings. At the end, you pretty much controll time and space, can whoop whole armies in a matter of seconds, and slay dragons just 'cause they're annoying you.

I think that's the two main reasons I keep playing it. The characters are wonderful, (especially your bhaalspawn companions^^) the storyline awesome, the music flawless and I do believe the serie has two of the best antigonists ever. Irenicus takes the first place anyway, that's a fact. After all these years he still manages to give me the creeps.

What I love is the emphasis on the story line and character development. The graphics work is absolutely stunning and some thought has actually gone into the game's storyline, unlike today's trends where games have no substance and are nothing more than the latest graphics engine. The latest and greatest sexy graphics tend to get old quickly and are soon surpassed. I think it's a disturbing development in the gaming industry. I find myself going back to my older games such as Fallout 1&2, and a host of older titles I'm sure everyone here would've heard about, but more specifically the BG series. I never uninstall BG2

I think one of the series greatest assets is the replayability and the continuing mod work from its die hard community. Well written scripts, wonderful voice acting, the ability to choose your own path to follow. The NPC's in the game I find myself actually getting attatched too, instead of just treating them like a commodity

Ah ye, I forgot to mention that as well. The graphics, the avatars (but NOT the paperdolls xD) are absolutely stunning. I can play games fresh of the market and find their graphics good, but considering this game has a few years on its neck and it's still better.

It's just soo good, period
