i just got a magic missile scroll and realizad I'm not sure how magic works.
i read the manual and underestand there are charges, but is it like mana based and you fire the spell for a certain number of "points" or is it like D & D wands, i.e. 15 charges = 15 uses. Does resting replenish and where do you get spells? Do you find them like i found the scroll in a chest or do you learn on level-up?

Easy enought.
Scrolls are one shot spells. Once you cast it, it is gone forever. If you ahve 10 magic missile scrolls, then you can cast that spell 10 times. using the scrolls. Think of those just like potions.
FOr a character to cast spells. you use one of several different items: arcane magic- spellbooks, celestial magic- crystals, rune magic runes, nether magic- "mixtures".
Arcane magic spellbooks act like scrolls, but once used, will eventually regenerate. So, if you ahve 10 fireball spellbooks, then you can cast 10 fireball spells before you have to wait for a spellbook to regenerate. The scribe skill helps speed up the regeneration of spellbooks.
Celestial crystals use a mana system. Each crystal can cast a particular spell. In addition each spell costs 100 points. By collecting more crystals of a particular spell, you can cast that spell more times. Like spellbooks, the points regenerate overtime. The channel skill helps speed up the regeneration.
Rune Magic is like celestial, but uses runes instead. In addition to the runes, you must also know the spell. Each spell will tell you which runes and mow many spell points of that rune it will need. For example, one rune spell may need 100 points from rune B and 200 points from rune B. The runes do eventually regerate. The channel skill also helps to speed up the regeneration just like it does with crystals.
Nether magic is different in that you mix ingredients to make the spell. Think of it as making scrolls. Once you have mixed the spell, you ahve one charge of that spell. Once used, you have to mix more ingredients in order to use that spell again. The spells do stack, so you can mix multiple amounts of the spell and have multiple charges. The only way to regerate nether spells is to mix more ingredients.

Good explanation.
Do you also happend to know how to see what rune does what?
The spells tell you you need 100 of "The rune of fire" and 200 of "The rune of wind" (or what ever) but the runes themselfs are not named that way. How do I know wich one is the rune of fire?

In order to use the runes, you need the spell itself. When you have the runespell, it will tell you which runes you need, and how many spell points worth of those runes that is required.
F0r example, Rune Armor needs a Dementos (100 spell points) and a Bruenguld(sp?) (100 spell points) rune to cast.As long as you have each of those runes, and at least 100 spell points in each of those runes, AND the spell, then you may cast it.
SOme rune spells may require 2-3 hundred spell points of a particular rune, and all of the spell require different types of runes.
