Lost Proficiencies

When I dual class a character I always end up wasting most of my first class's weapon proficiencies. For example, I recently played an Avenger/fighter. I put a slot into scimitars, dual weapons, sling, and single weapon style as the Avenger. I then dualled to a fighter. Obviously all my proficiencies disappeared, but I knew they'd come back. I put four slots into scimitar and two in dual weapons, knowing that when I activated my Avenger class, I'd get one proficiency in each skill. I did not. My single weapon style showed up because I did not put anything else in it.

When I open Shadow Keeper, it shows the weapon proficiencies of each class, and it shows that for scimitar, I have one in my Avenger class and four in my fighter class. To me this should mean that I have five total, but I only have four. I understand that if you dualled a ranger to a cleric, and you put two proficiencies as a ranger and one as a cleric, you could get three, which neither class can support, but a fighter can support it.

I also realize that most dual classing is used to combine magic with fighting, and the weapon proficiencies of the magic user are hardly worth saving anyway, but I also want to play an assassin/fighter and I'm scared that I will be wasting a lot of weapon proficiencies. Is there a patch that can fix this, or am I going to have to keep using Shadow Keeper to make the changes?

If ye dual class, ye lose all o' yer proficiency points until ye regain yer other class. When that be happenin', all proficiency points are added toge'er, unless ye got some in the same weapon, then they be overwritten.

Fer example, if I dual me dwarven (aye I know, it ain't possible.... :( ) fighter with 3 in Axe, an' I choose ranger as me other class (aye I know it ain't possible neither) an' give 2 in axe, when I regain me fighter class I'll only be havin' 3 in axe. Those're the rules. To get yerself 5 ye'll have to gain more points an' spend 'em, or use SK to add some in yer 1st class.

I think he is trying to say that they are not cumalativ(sp) if you put them in the same weapon.3axe+ 2axe= only 3. Damn dwarves ;)

Dwarves aren't nearly as bad as dragons. On another board I'm on, Smaug the Golden is a frequent visitor. Talk about an ego. It's like Shakespeare meets Irenicus with an appetite. It is very entertaining. Thanks for the info on the weapon proficiencies. It's odd though. Once you regain weapon proficiencies from your old class, you can add to them in a cumulative fashion. Oh, well.

Actually, there be nothing odd about it. It ain't about how "many" points ye got, it's about "where" ye got yer points, if ye know what I be sayin'.

See, me dwarven fighter trained with his axe until he had 3 points in it. So he were that far experienced in t'weapon. Then he dual classed to ranger, so he lost all fighter abilities, an' had to restart his trainin' with the axe. So he trained until he got 2 points. Then he regained his ol' class. The best he could use the axe were as if he had trained 3 points in it.

Got it? :)
