Help with custom portraits

Hi
I'm sure everyone is sick of hearing this question, but it's driving me mad.
I can't seem to get custom portraits to work. All the pixel info is correct, so are the way the portraits are named and formatted. My problem is that I can not for the life of me find the "portraits directory" they're uspposed to go into. If anyone has some suggestions I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

you have to create the directory yourself, then save your portraits in there.

I have a folder titled "portraits" in the program file but there's still nothing there. Is there a certain place I'm supposed to create this directory?

The portraits folder needs to go in the Icewind Dale folder. Choose from the portraits in-game by customising your character, selecting portrait and then Custom when the available ones appear.

It has to go into the main game directory where you installed IWD. Say Program Files/Icewind Dale I/Portraits.
If nothing else works try to rename the folder to Portrait - I don't seriously think its case sensitive but give it a try, who knows.

The portraits that the game already uses are in a different place so the Portraits folder is going to be empty, but it should still work through accessing custom portraits in-game.

Quoted.
The measurements for player portraits are 38X60 pixels for the small ones
(8-bit color only) and 110X170 pixels for the large ones. Put these in
the Portraits directory (in the install directory for the game) and add a
S to the end of the small portrait name and an L to the end of the large
portrait. The names must be 1-7 letters long, maximum.
For example:
XXXXXXXS.bmp for small (38x60, 8-bit)
XXXXXXXL.bmp for large (110x70, 24-bit)
For multiplayer, each player must have a copy of the portraits, otherwise
they will see a blank icon where the other player's custom portraits would be.
